Kingdom Hearts 3D contains seven playable worlds, each with a unique style. There are also a few worlds that appear in the game's story, but are never presented in a playable form.

Playable Worlds[edit]

Traverse Town[edit]

Traverse Town is a sort of haven for people whose home worlds have been lost. It is a land of eternal night, with the stars clearly visible. Traverse Town is divided into several interconnected districts, along with some areas that are not formally organized, such as the local Post Office.

In Kingdom Hearts 3D, Traverse Town is the safe haven for some of the inhabitants of Shibuya, from the game The World Ends With You. Here, they still compete in the Reapers' Game, even when separated from their partners, by using friendly Dream Eater spirits.

Common Dream Eaters in Traverse Town include Meow Wows, Komory Bats, Kooma Pandas, Pricklemanes, and various others. The most powerful local Dream Eater is the Hockomonkey, a large simian Nightmare with multiple forms.

La Cité des Cloches[edit]

La Cité des Cloches is a world based on the movie The Hunchback of Notre Dame. It is an urbanized world, with a large cathedral in the middle of a big city. However, there are also less settles places, including a mysterious graveyard.

The City is the home to several notable characters. Judge Claude Frollo is the local authority, and the boss of Captain Phoebus. Frollo is obsessed with exterminating the local gypsy population, including Esmerelda, a young dancer. Meanwhile, the hunchback Quasimodo, the local bell-ringer, is kept inside the cathedral at all times by his master, Frollo, who wishes to protect him from the outside world.

La Cité des Cloches is home to a number of Dream Eaters, including Necho Cats, Toximanders, Zolephants, and Wheeflowers. The most powerful local Dream Eater is the Wargoyle, a monstrous creature with guns attached to its arms. It sometimes is equipped with a pair of wings.

The Grid[edit]

The Grid is based on the movie Tron: Legacy, and is the second world in the Kingdom Hearts series based on the Tron franchise.

The Grid was actually originally a world within a world. Characters within The Grid refer to a "real" world that they either came from or wish to go to. Two of these real-worlders include Kevin Flynn, the designer of The Grid, and his son, Sam. Originally, Kevin made CLU in order to help him manage the world he had created. However, when the ISO race emerged, including Quorra, the two fought, and eventually CLU took over. In the process, he took the hero of The Grid, Tron, and turned him into Rinzler.

The Gird is home to a smaller variety of Dream Eaters than some other worlds. However, they are reinforced by the Black Guard, CLU's personal army of vicious enforcers, and are actually tougher to beat than the local Dream Eaters. That said, even they pale in comparison to the Commantis, a mantis-like monster that has a lower body similar to a disc.

Prankster's Paradise[edit]

Prankster's Paradise is a world based on the movie Pinocchio. Although other Kingdom Hearts games have featured characters from the movie before, and even had a world inspired by one of those characters, this is the first time in the series a proper world based on the movie has appeared.

Prankster's Paradise contains three main areas. On one side, there is a circus, full of rides and attractions. Many of these, such as the Ferris Wheel and Roller Coaster, are functioning, and can be interacted with. Another portion of the world consists of an ocean that the playable characters can swim through. The third is the inside of Monstro, a giant whale. Characters native to Prankster's Paradise include Geppetto, an elderly woodcarver, Pinocchio, his puppet "son," Jiminy Cricket, Pinocchio's conscience, and the Blue Fairy, a benevolent spirit that brought gave Pinocchio life.

Dream Eaters native to Prankster's Paradise include Fin Fatales, Iceguin Aces, Juggle Pups, and Tatsu Steed. There are two Dream Eater bosses, but they are both fairly similar: giant, lobster like monsters.

Country of the Musketeers[edit]

The Country of the Musketeers is a world based on the direct-to-video Disney film Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers. It is a retelling of the classic story starring three of the most prominent Disney characters in the Kingdom Hearts series.

The Country of the Musketeers is, like La Cité des Cloches, based on historic France. That said, the focus is different, with The Country being more cartoonish and focusing on an opera house and countryside rather than an urban area. In this world, Pete is the Captain of the Musketeers, and has recently dubbed Mickey, Donald, and Goofy musketeers as well. It is their duty to defend Princess Minnie. However, Pete, along with the Beagle Boys, is up to no good.

The Country of the Musketeers contains many Nightmare Dream Eaters, including the mighty Holey Moley and Tyranto Rex in addition to smaller enemies. However, the Beagle Boys will also be a threat for both Sora and Riku as they fight their way through this world.

Symphony of Sorcery[edit]

Symphony of Sorcery is a world based off of the Disney film Fantasia. Although characters from that movie have played a prominent part in the series before, most notable Mickey and Yen Sid, this is the first time a world based on the movie has appeared in the series.

Symphony of Sorcery is a somewhat surreal world. Ancient Greek gardens, frozen seas, giant forests, and fields of clouds appear next to each other with little rhyme or reason. These locations are mostly deserted, with the music instead featuring prominently in this level.

Symphony of Sorcery contains a number of Nightmare Dream Eaters, including Thunderaffes, Ryu Dragons, and Pegaslicks. The most powerful Dream Eater in the area is the magical Spellican, an avian Nightmare with many magical tricks up its sleeve. However, even it may not be this world's greatest enemy. The Evil Chernabog and his army of demons await those foolish enough to cross his path.

The World That Never Was[edit]

KH3DThe World That Never Was Logo KH3D.png

The World That Never Was is the final playable world in Kingdom Hearts 3D. It is not based on any movie, instead being an original creation of Square Enix.

The World That Never Was is a dark, empty city. This world is the home of the villainous Organization XIII, the strongest Dream Eaters in the game, and nothing else.

Local Nightmares include Keeba Tigers, Cera Terrors, Tyranto Rexes, and the amazzingly powerful Anti Black Coat.
