Welcome to the final boss battle in the game! You've cleared every level, defeated King Dedede and collected every Rainbow Drop. Now, it is time to bring down Dark Matter. With the power of the Rainbow Sword, can you defeat this malevolent entity once and for all?

Midair sword fight[edit]

The first phase of Dark Matter starts out simple enough. You must fight it in the air, and the power of the Rainbow Sword lets you move anywhere on the screen. Dark Matter will fly around the screen, shooting beams and slashing from its own sword as well as charging across the screen. However, the attack you have to watch out for is its charged sphere attack. While simply cutting him with the Rainbow Sword doesn't do a lot of damage, you can attack the sphere to make it split into three, which deal considerably more damage if it hits Dark Matter.

There are two main tactics to use when going up against this boss. The safest method is to focus on evading Dark Matter's attacks, waiting it to use its charged projectile. This lets you take minimal damage, and helps you get into an ideal position to retaliate whenever Dark Matter uses the projectile. The second, more risky approach is to aggressively slash at Dark Matter with every opportunity you get. This should chip its health down faster, but you are also more likely to suffer damage due to how close you have to be to attack with the Rainbow Sword. Being at this close proximity also means it is difficult to react and deflect the charged projectile attack. Unless you are confident that you won't get hit, go with the first method so that you defeat it with as much health as possible, since you won't get any health back for the second phase.

Cosmic abomination[edit]

Dark Matter's humanoid form might be relatively simple compared to some of the bosses you've faced before, but that is in fact not its true form. With its first phase defeated, Dark Matter regroups into a dark eyeball. In this form, Dark Matter has several new attacks. It can launch the blades surrounding at you, which can be deflected by the Rainbow Sword, but will explode otherwise. It can also fire a series of beams in every direction around itself. Other than that, it will frequently charge across the screen as well as shoot extremely fast lightning. Again, the Rainbow Sword is your main weapon to damage him, but you can do more damage if you can deflect the scales around it when it tries to launch them at you. This is more difficult to do than deflecting the projectile of its first form, as you must move behind it just as it is firing off the scales.

Dark Matter's second form is a lot more difficult than its first form, and the fact that your health isn't refilled as the phase starts makes it even harder. Your tactics here are still the same as with the first form, either waiting to deflect its scales or relentlessly attacking it. However, it might be better to find a balance between aggression and defense, so that the fight doesn't drag out too long, or else you'll start taking damage. Attack Dark Matter between attack intervals, and learn to predict its moves based on its animation. Keep chipping in damage bit by bit and you will eventually defeat the final boss in the game!

The End![edit]

After Dark Matter is defeated, it explodes high in the sky. Kirby is knocked out by the blast and plummets to the earth, as Whispy Woods, Rick, Coo, Kine and even King Dedede watch anxiously. Fortunately, Kirby regains consciousness while still falling, and quickly grabs the Rainbow Sword for a smooth flight back to the ground. As he streaks across the sky, the Rainbow Sword's trails form a beautiful rainbow. Congratulations for completing Kirby's Dream Land 2!
