In the PC version of Left 4 Dead, cheats are enabled on the server by typing sv_cheats 1 in the developer's console (accessed by pressing ` when enabled in the options menu). As this game is based on the Source engine, you can attempt to use some console commands within Half-Life 2.

You cannot earn achievements if sv_cheats is enabled.

Console command Effect
Player activity
god [0/1] Enabled/Disable invulnerability. Note that you may still get pinned or constricted by hunters and smokers.
noclip Allows travel through walls. Bots will travel by foot, and in most cases, you have to wait for them to catch up.
give Gives a player an item. Common items are ammo, autoshotgun, first_aid_kit, pipe_bomb, molotov, rifle, hunting_rifle, pain_pills.
sv_infinite_ammo [0/1] Infinite ammo for survivor weapons.
boom Spawns an active pipebomb
fire Spawns an active molotov
z_spawn Spawns a character or monster at your location.
Zombies/difficulty
director_stop Stops director zombie spawning. Use director_start to re-enable.
Note: Zombies can still be spawned through map triggers, even if the director is disabled.
director_panic_forever [0-1] Forces the director to constantly panic — thus creating endless zombie waves.
skill [0-3] Adjusts the difficulty of the game.
z_common_limit Adjusts the maximum number of "common" zombies deployed at once. Higher means larger swarms.
z_mega_mob_size Adjusts the swarm size of a panic event.
director_no_human_zombies [0/1] Prevents humans from joining as infected.
