In Lineage II, a specific combination of armor items can give special set bonuses in Lineage II. In this fashion a set of armor might be more suited for an archer, or a nuker, or even a tank by changing statistics in a predictable way. Moreover, each class has armor mastery skill(s) that provides extra bonus, so it's suggested to wear the armor according to the skill. Usually, heavy armors are for tankers, light armors are for damage dealers and robes are for wizards, healers and buffers.

For activating all armor sets up to c-grade, one simply has to have all items of those sets. For b-grade sets, the warsmith in Giran has to unseal the Gloves and the Boots for the specific set; this costs nothing and is mainly because they look different on each set and to fulfill the set requirement. From a-grade on, ALL items of the set have to be unsealed, and this costs quite a sum of ancient adena, too. The Blacksmith of Mammon does this unsealing.
