From StrategyWiki, the free strategy guide and walkthrough wiki
Skills are the core of your character — rather than choosing your stats, they are determined by your skill level in certain areas. Weaving, for instance, raises your dexterity.
All skills have ranks F–A, then 9–1, with 1 being the highest and F being the lowest. Skills are categorized in three areas: Combat, Life, and Magic. Each is described in greater detail below.
Skills are ranked up using Ability Points, which are gained through completing Beginner's Quests, leveling up, or aging a year (which occurs every Saturday). The amount gained through aging depends on your character's age — older characters gain less AP. It becomes imperative therefore to pay Nexon to rebirth your characters. Rebirthing allows players to, among other things, reset their character's age and level. This allows them to gain skills faster. As of the Pioneers of Iria update, any non-pet character can reset their level and age in a free rebirth when they reach the age of 20.
[edit] Combat
Combat skills are represented by a red background and are naturally used in battle. Most are offensive skills, but some like Critical Hit and Combat Mastery are passive and bolster the effects of other skills.
- Combat Mastery: Combat mastery is a skill giants and humans start out with. Elves learn it during beginner quests. This skill only adds melee power, not magic or ranged power. It is capped at rank 1 with the master title: "combat Master".
- Counter Attack: Counter Attack is great because it can not only block even a smash, but it can redirect its power back! The higher its rank, the more damage is redirected. Eventually, your rank will let you add extra damage. Warning: Counter Attack eats up your stamina for as long as you use it. It can be tricky, but timing is key for stamina conservation!
- Defense: this is an activated skill, and it'll block a normal attack, giving you a chance to launch your own with minimal damage. It is helpful if you always wear armor. Warning: just because you blocked one, doesn't mean they've stopped coming! Quickly attack (send a punch or slash or whatever), or you'll just get attacked again.
- Smash: a powerful one-blow attack. Can be countered but not defended against. Also, normal attacks can stop a smash, so be careful! Helpful for breaking an enemies defense.
- Windmill: a special break-dance maneuver that hurt any enemies in a certain circumference around your body. Careful, because when you use it you become stationary and using the move will do some damage to your hit points.
- Arrow Revolver:
- Magnum Shot: basically an Archer's Smash. This powerful shot can send an enemy flying, but, like counter, it devours stamina for how many seconds you hold it.
- Ranged Attack: this skill is like a combat mastery for ranged weapons, It is the default attack used with a bow, (after finishing another skill or just attacking).
- Support Shot: this skill allows you to attack a monster already under attack, without taking the 'accomplishment' of the kill
- Critical Hit: this skill is a passive skill that allows you to make more powerful critical hits; the higher the rank of this skill the more damage a critical hit will do.
- Sharp Mind (Passive): helps you read what your enemies are doing so you can choose the best strategy. All ranks are the same in mind-reading ability, i.e. rank F is fine.
Life skills consist of a yellow background and are generally support skills. Some bolster the effects of other skills, such as Campfire, while others allow players to create items and potions.
- Blacksmithing:
- Campfire: gives you the ability to create a campfire which people can sit around to increase the effectiveness of the 'Rest' skill.
- Composing:
- Cooking:
- First Aid:
- Fishing: allows user to fish in rivers, ponds, lake, ocean, etc... and get fish and items
- Handicraft:
- Herbalism:
- Music Theory:
- Playing Instrument: allows the user to play music on a lute, flute, drums etc, the higher the skill the better the playing of score scrolls.
- Potion Making:
- Production Mastery: a shared, passive skill which affects the ability to gather materials or make things i.e. woodcutting, weaving etc.
- Refine:
- Rest: this skill allows the user to sit and heal themselves slowly over a period of time.
- Tailoring:
- Weaving:
- Enchant: Enchant Scrolls can be found at the end of dungeons, and, depending on rank, can give your weapons good effects as well as your stats. To enchant, you must have an enchant scroll and magic powder. Also, you have to keep in mind the scroll's time limit. Scrolls only last for so long until they expire.
- Fireball:
- Firebolt: learned by book or class, Firebolt is a basic fire spell which is a one-shot spell. It can be charged 5 times, and will always knock an enemy backwards unless they are magic resistant.
- Healing: learned by book, Healing is, well, every Healer's dream. Healing you friends in battle with a 5 charge spell always constitutes a Thank You. However, it consumes a lot MP, and every rank will without a doubt drain you of AP. Rank up wisely.
- Icebolt: the first spell that is usually learned on Mabinogi. It can be charged 5 times, and each charge is released individually. Can be helpful if one knows the "Ice Spam" trick.
- Lightning Bolt:
- Magic Mastery:
- Meditation:
- Party Healing:
- Thunder:
