Warning: This walkthrough is constantly edited for your enjoyment and complete understanding and may and DOES contain spoilers. Read at your OWN risk, especially if you are new to the game, the english translation patch and the ds version and do not know what you are doing but need a better understanding of what is really going on here.

Prologue[edit]

Ignore the text if you can’t understand it. Most of the translations are broken and readable only to allow your character to function (using basic universal movements like those on the DS and the menu screens, or what have you to direct you better) Basically, you should do what the game tells you to do (the people you need to talk to/portals that you need to go in are circled in red). If a NPC asks you a question, always choose the top one. Do this until you reach the map where you have to do a lot of jumping (if you are unsure if the map you are in is it, at the top will be a door beside a Male fairy who should be next to a door and there should also be a small orange-capped mushroom you can kill for extra skill points and coins. You can also rest and save here. You can and should do so at this time before you move on. A lot of these jumps take skill and most of the Prologue is Training so you MUST complete it before you can move on. (SORRY, FOLKS! Them's the breaks! Not fair, but life never is, is it?) So once you have practiced enough and read the skill directions (usually contained on a signpost with an exclamation point! circled in the middle of it) to tell you what needs to be done at that point, some need to be done as combinations of the skills you have acquired previously, kill all of the monsters in this map until you get a golden key. Now continue to the door.

If you press up when you are at the door, it will prompt you to use your key. Now go to the menu (press START) and select the item tab. If you have already gotten the key, it should show up. Press A to use the key, and it unlocks the door which leads you through the next portal. If you try to go in the portal, the Fairy talks to you and ask you if you want to save. I would advise you to save at this point as it also refills your HP and MP. Now go in and fight the boss (Yellow Mushroom). After you beat the boss, pick up the book and a NPC will come in and equip the skill (LUCKY SEVEN) for you. Then you will not be able to exit the portal for the time being. The NPC will then will summon a small orange shroom and tell you to kill it using your LUCKY SEVEN skill (If you don’t, the NPC will summon another Shroom until you use your skill. The skill is used by strategically tapping and holding the L button on your DS which takes some bit of practice, let me tell you. But its doable.) Kill the Shroom and then you have permission to leave using the portal. Continue going right until you reach Kerning City. You will see more opportunities to perfect your LUCKY SEVEN skill by killing random orange-capped mushrooms standing on the edge of your jump spot so you pretty much have to eliminate them to get by. You will also have an opportunity to save through the portal you came back through when you unlocked the door with the key at the Fairy beforehand. I suggest you do so, as the blue portals keep dissapearing. Strange. Keep moving. More portals will vanish and then you will be shown several red portals and one blue one at the end. The screen will fade to ghost-white and you will have a limited amount of time to get through the portal.

CUT SCENE TO DREAM SEQUENCE[edit]

Skip the text again if you cannot understand it. Most translations are done in broken english anyways. The actions are what are most important. And the storyline. This is where the Dream Sequence Begins after you vanish into the last blue portal after seeing the three red ones right before you vanished into Kerning City and the last blue portal vanished behind you, once again leading you to panic. You will learn here why the blue portals have been dissapearing and why the red portals appeared and what has been happening to the World since. This is a very integral part of your travels in Maple Story from now on as the more you know about what is going on and the better prepared you are, the better and more useful thief you will become. Pay close attention. This is an important dream sequence dealing with your character. After you talk to the girl in Kerrning City just outside the portal after it dissapears and you realise you were NOT imagining things You will again meet the girl after the dream sequence in the top most crane where you first showed up to do your tests to become a thief. She (default name is usually Rina) will frantically ask you to wake up! Rina will frantically worry about you and ask you what the dream was about. Your character will go into details that it was mostly about Rina but it was very vague so you were not sure what it had to deal with, but you will see an amulet appear. Rina will assure you she is not unhappy at the moment and that she has an errand to run before she goes to sleep and that you should do the same because a 'focused mentality' in her opinion, makes for better results in this town. She will exit to the right at the portal, you should do the same.

Chapter 1: My Job as Maple Agent[edit]

At the next area (Kerning City where you just were before your dream sequence after the last blue portal dissapeared...and as you can see they are back again...for now) speak to the guy who looks like a sailor with a blue suit and white hat just below the TAXI and he will tell you something about going to a place called 'Perion' Then speak to the NPC on the right again and he will tell you that the portals are 'unstable' these days. Oh really? Your character will tell the NPC that he is looking for Rina. The NPC will tell you she would probably be somewhere in the village. Go down the stairs to your left by the subway station (same NPC) and he will tell you that carelessly entering the subway station and portals is dangerous these days. Fugitives tend to escape there. And it is closed for now anyways. Oh well. Ask him about Rina and he will tell you until recently she was in the neighborhood and ask you why Rina always seems to be found in a dangerous place? Talk to the TAXI driver. He will tell you that ever since the portals have been messed up people haven't been able to go anyplace.

He asks you where you want to go and if you pick a spot he will observe that you haven't been there before and to let him know after you visit the place at least once. You mean now you can't even get to Perion? Crud. Well, this stinks. What to do? Strategically go off to your left and jump up the sides of the building and go through the doors (one will lead up to the other and so forth) until you see three white blocks of red kanji and a flying pig next to it (Apparently pigs DO fly after all, at least in Maple Story.) Talk to her and she will introduce herself as Pigmi. The text is mostly unreadable unless you understand the symbol which most don't, so just move past it. She talks a bit about her food. Nothing more can be done. Jump on top of the crane and you will find Rina! YAY! FINALLY! You will be SO happy to see her after all that. The girl in the red baseball cap below her isn't important just do a jump dash combo and get up to Rina as fast as you can.

She will tell you bits about the Subway and the portals and that someone who was responsible for gumming up the works to my understanding by the name of 'Ellinia' should be properly dealt with by some group called 'The Wizards.' Hmm. She warns you that they are a 'dubious looking' lot and because of this being a rather 'urgent matter' you should do something 'unreasonable' and mentions something about 100,000 mesos and a 'Boarding Pass' to Ludibrium as payment. Well, that certaily doesn't seem 'unreasonable' to me. Right now the Boarding Pass would be rather useless to you, but I would keep it until it finds itself useful later on. So now, you ask Rina if you need to take the Subway. She assures you no, because the Wizard fixed it. And that is where he is. She assures you if you take her to the Subway, you can talk to him and then all will be done. She asks you if you know the story of the Clock Tower. Of course you don't know. Pick the second option. Rina more or less explains that this is a Phenomenon that happened long ago over the portal. Its something of a magic Clock Tower.

Something phenomenal and goddess-like. So here as well as across the globe over the phenomenon is known. She carefully explains to you the Clock Tower is actually the Center of the World. According to legend, its where the World was actually created. Your character says that its time to catch up to The Wizard at the Subway where the supposed 'Fugitives' are being held according to Rina and the NPC's. She asks you to check out the Clock Tower outside of town when you can as as small request. Of course you will. Pick the first option and say 'Yes'. Talk to the NPC at the Subway again and he will say something about a 'combination' but you cannot use that portal still. Darn. Go back to the portal on the right again. Speak to the guy directly to the left, the other NPC and he will also speak of a 'combination.' You can now go through the portal! YAY! Talk to the construction worker on the uppermost level. He will tell you this is a construction site. Well, duh. Not like you don't notice all the pipes and construction barriers laying around. Whatever. Go down one level and kill the blue mushroom to get more mesos and experience. Drop down again and two more blue snails will be waiting for you (you may and should be able to level up by this time, I did).

After killing those two snails off and hopefully leveling up, drop all the way down to the bottom and kill a few more blue snails and you should get a blue snail card by this time. Kill a few more and go off to the right and through the portal. Red snail time. Kill a few of these then jump dash to the right and you will talk to some strange girl with blue hair, a winged headband and glasses who talks strangely about Ellinia to you and shoots random fireballs at you! HEY! what the heck???? She said she lost her 'valuable' Boarding Pass and says something about your grandfather. Huh??? She talks to you about her 'job' and you explain to her something about did she not KNOW what she was getting into when she TOOK this job? She will apologize to you, talk to you about Kerning City a little and then start shooting fireballs at you again. Your character gets very angry and very UN-POLITELY tells her that he has had enough and to 'FUCK OFF.' Oh well. Guess time for niceties is over with, you have been hit by enough today. You tell her you are an AGENT of Maple and she questions your sincerity. This is making you angry. Now she really apologizes and says that Ellinia has something to do with you being an agent and you have called her bluff. SO THERE.

She says that you are angry with her. And well, don't you have every right to be? She offers to help you capture 'THE FUGITIVE'. Wait, so is this the mysterious 'Ellinia'? She asks you how you could do so well and find her without guidance from Rina. You promptly bitch-slap her. Alright. So she is testing your patience really badly now. She unconfuses you by telling you HER grandfather , THE WIZARD always acted with 'dignity.' Whatever. She's a meanie. She starts to cry again. Is this for real this time? Kind of like the boy who cried wolf here. You ask her if she is going to keep crying. She pouts. You ask her her name. She doesn't seem to have one. You have to name her? Hmm. Be nice here. Name her and she will join you for a while in the story. Go to your left to the treasure chest and get your Glider boots and 50 mesos and kill a pig for another 12! NICE! Afterwards, go back to Kerning City and Head the subway station (if you have to do this here, but you may have to talk to the girl in the building with the mapleleaf symbol. Talk to her, and then talk to the maple agent on top of the electric wires above the portal where you just came in from. If you want, you can open the chest for some goodies). To finish the chapter now, follow the pirate guy until you reach the cut scene. Afterwards, defeat the pirate thingy to finish the chapter.
