You talk to NPCs by standing close to them and pressing the up arrow or tapping the NPC.

How to Climb a Rope or Ladder[edit]
Stand under a rope or ladder and press jump while holding up or keep pressing jump to grab onto it and climb.

How to Go through a Portal[edit]
Go over to the white portal with the yellow/orange arrow over it. Once you are standing within range, the up arrow of your control keys starts blinking orange. Press the up arrow key to use it, and talk to the NPC to finish your quest.

How to Attack a Monster[edit]
There will be a blue snail on your screen. Climb the ladder and attack it with the attack button. It can't actually hit you, so no need to worry. When you have killed the snail take the portal back to the previous map and talk to the NPC to finish your quest.
