Some details of the code are slightly different for Player 1 and Player 2, but most aspects are identical.
Input the Akuma code correctly. Play as Akuma and win one round. When you return to the Versus screen, tap

To disable Gems in two player mode both players must press and hold START after choosing their character until the round starts.

You cannot use these codes with the Shortcut turned on, but if you save the game after using any code, you can choose the respective character automatically with the Shortcut option on. Beat the game once on any difficulty setting and save the game. Make sure that this game save is loaded into memory when you try to enter these codes.

On the character select screen, highlight Magneto, Juggernaut, Dhalsim, or M.Bison and press
. Akuma's picture will appear.
On the character select screen, highlight Chun-Li and hold the START button and press any action button.
Highlight one of the right or leftmost characters. Then press and hold the joystick away from the selection grid.
Select your first character and then use the random selection code to select the second. If you can make it stop on your first highlighted character it will remain enabling you to select the same character twice. This does some strange things to the life bars, so be careful. It may also screw up the color palette for one of the characters on the selection grid but this will not effect game play.
Beat your opponent with Rogue (don't use a Team Super to do this). Then, before Rogue does her win pose, hold

. Rogue will turn around and give you a nice view of her backside.
Beat the game on any difficulty level (whether you continue or not), and you get the following extras:
Beat the game without having your or your partner die, and you get a new option in the Options Menu:
After losing a match either against a friend or the CPU, the loser can restart the same match by pressing or holding the
or
button when the winner's quote screen starts to apear. You'll know if it worked because you'll hear a sound cue.
At the main menu press

. This allows you to play the original arcade version of the game or the default EX version specially designed for the the PlayStation. If you choose Original mode, then you will be able to switch characters during a match. You may only use this feature in the versus mode and both you and another player must choose the same team of characters in opposite order. For example, if you choose Ryu and Ken, then your opponent must choose Ken and Ryu and you will be able to switch characters during a fight.
To play as Apocalypse, complete the game at a difficulty of at least five stars. Then select versus mode. At the character selection screen, highlight Akuma and hold
for five seconds before pushing any punch button.
At the Vs. screen press
to switch the fighter who will begin the match. Press them again to swap back.
To see Dan slam into the floor in an explosion, make sure that he's the first up to fight, and hold
prior to the battle starting. Dan also has a special finish; if he kills a person with his Premium Sign attack (even if they're killed by block damage), you'll get the black finish usually reserved for Hyper Combos. Note that this only works if they're hit by the _thrown_ autograph, not if they're killed while Dan is holding his autograph.
To fight a special team consisting of one hidden character and either Akuma or M. Bison, fulfill the following requirements before Stage 6:

Norimaro will show on the character select screen (bottom middle square) if the machine is set to Freeplay or 1 coin X credit. A setting of 2 coins or above and you will only see the Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter logo in his square. To use Norimaro's quadruple jump, hold down

before the battle begins. Once it has begun, Norimaro can now jump 4 times in a row (just like Chun-Li's triple jump or Cyclops' double jump). If you want to keep using this trick, you have to do it between every stage. His quadruple jump is a little different from most people with mid-air jumps in that you have to wait a moment between the 3rd and 4th jumps.
Start a new game and choose any character for your first followed by Spiderman as the second. Deliberately lose and then continue game. Choose Armored Spiderman as your first character and the other Spiderman should be selected as your second.
Beat the game once (on any difficulty, even if you lose and continue), and you get an infinite Life Gauge option, eight speed stars total, two additional colors for each character, and same character select. Beat the game again (on eight star difficulty, even if you lose and continue), and you get a Hyper Combo Gauge option. Optionally, beat the game one time on eight star difficulty and don't lose to get all of these options enabled.
Beat Survival Mode once (on any difficulty) and this becomes available. To use it, highlight "Survival Mode" in the main menu and press
or
once. It will now read "Mech-Gouki Now!!" mode. If you select it, you can fight Mech-Gouki. However, note that, like Survival Mode, none of the bonus options work in this mode.
To select Cyber Akuma, beat Mech-Gouki Now!! mode once (at any difficulty). You also need to beat the game once (to enable same character select). Then, in Arcade or Versus mode, highlight Akuma, hold Start, and press any button. Highlight Akuma again (for your second choice), hold
, and press any button. You'll get Cyber Akuma instead. Note that Cyber Akuma can only be used by himself. If killed, he cannot be attacked with the "Beat Up Your Opponent" trick. If you beat the game with Cyber Akuma, another one will fall down and you can attack it. Cyber Akuma actually gets one line of text here, but the ending is the same generic kind you get for using the Marvel hidden characters (Armor Spider-Man, Mephisto, or US Agent).

Press Start to move after winning a round, and perform any action. You'll get more points if the animation you're doing when the game stops looks cool.
After you kill your second opponent during any battle, but before the 'pose points' counter appears, hold down
and keep holding them. You'll have your opponent's helper at the start of the next battle.
After selecting your second character, quickly hold down Start and the buttons shown. To select your helper between rounds, hold these buttons once the round ends but before you return to the Stage screen. To fight a special team consisting of one hidden character and either Akuma or M. Bison, fulfill the following requirements before Stage 7, in addition to never losing either partner:

To enable Shadow and Sentinel, simply beat the game once. They can be picked by moving to the bottom of the screen and pressing Down when highlighting Iceman or Colossus.
To enable a hidden character, simply beat the game with their counterpart. Then follow the instructions to select them.
The requirements have been simplified a lot for the PSX version. Just do the following:
