The main hero of the game, and the only one available from the start. He has the same capabilities as in the original NES game, starting out with only his Mega Buster, which fires tiny yellow pellets. You can only have three pellets on-screen at a time. He is the only character who gains a new weapon by defeating a Robot Master.
This is Mega Man with the Slide ability first introduced in Mega Man 3. Hold
and press the Jump button to slide through small passages or under enemy fire.
This is Mega Man with both the Slide and the ability to charge his Mega Buster, first introduced in Mega Man 4. Hold the Fire button to charge up, then release it to fire a charged shot. Charged shots are much more powerful than Mega Man's normal shots, and can break through enemy defenses.
This is Mega Man with no armor, no Slide, and no weapons, not even the Mega Buster. He can only attack by kicking his enemies.
Roll's only weapon is a broom, which she swings like a club. She can perform a double-swing combo if you press the fire button twice while on the ground. You can download a variety of alternate costumes for her; some of these costumes give her a different weapon, but they all still work the same way. None of her costumes change her gameplay in any way.
Protoman's weapon, the Proto Strike, acts like a permanently charged Mega Buster. Every shot he fires is as large and powerful as Mega Man C's fully charged shots, and have the same capability to break through enemy defenses, but he doesn't have to charge for them. However, his shots don't go through walls, and you can only have one shot on-screen at a time. Protoman also jumps higher than anybody else, and he carries his Proto Shield, which he holds in front of him when he is standing still. It can block enemy shots, but every time it does so, it will be knocked out of Protoman's hand and thrown a short distance behind him, and he will have to go back and retrieve it in order to use it again. (Better hope it doesn't land on spikes or fall into a bottomless pit....) And he'll need to hang on to it, because he takes twice as much damage as anyone else from every attack that does hit him.
Cutman's Rolling Cutter works just like Mega Man's version of it. He also has the ability to wall-jump, much like X and Zero in the Mega Man X and Mega Man Zero series, although he can't slide down walls, only jump off them. He can climb vertical passages by wall-jumping back and forth between two walls.
Gutsman's only attack is to lift blocks and throw them at enemies. However, if there aren't any blocks nearby, he can create some. This ability can be used in lots of interesting ways; for instance, he can create a block and then stand on it to reach high places, or to cross spikes or wide pits. He can even trap enemies between blocks. However, he cannot damage an enemy by creating a block above it and simply letting it fall on the enemy's head; that just makes the block disappear. The block must be created, lifted, and thrown to inflict any damage. Unlike Mega Man, he can lift a block while he's standing on it. Hold
and press the Fire button to do so.
Iceman's Ice Slasher works just like Mega Man's, except that he can stand on an enemy he's frozen with it. He can also walk on ice without slipping.
Bombman attacks by throwing Hyper Bombs, but unlike Mega Man, he can throw bombs at different angles. Holding
or
as you press the Fire button makes him throw the bomb further than normal,
makes him throw it higher than normal, and
makes him place the bomb at his feet.
Fireman's Fire Storm shoots a fireball in front of him while surrounding him in a fire shield, just like Mega Man's version of it. However, any contact with water will extinguish the flame on his head, and then he can no longer shoot fireballs, only create the fire shield. He will need to touch a source of fire to reignite the flame in order to shoot fireballs again. He is also immune to fire.
Elecman's Thunder Beam fires electric bolts in three directions: up, down, and forward, just like Mega Man's version, except that Elecman's can activate a certain type of block, causing it to move back and forth. He is also immune to electricity.
Timeman attacks by shooting the arrow-like Clock Hands at opponents. He always fires two at a time, one diagonally up and forward, one diagonally down and forward. He can activate the Time Slow by charging up and releasing.
Oilman uses the Oil Slider the same way Mega Man does. He can also walk on oil without slipping.
