Mega Man Xtreme is split up into two sections. The first allows the player to choose from one of eight robot master levels to play through. The guide here is organized to choose the bosses in an order that allows for the easiest difficulty and most direct way to get all of the upgrades.

After the first four levels are completed, a final level appears that is made up of several levels in a row. If you die during this final level, you will start back at the last check point (often the beginning of the level you were on). If you continue after a "Game Over" on this final level, you will start at the beginning of the first final level.

Suggested order[edit]

As in all the previous Mega Man games for Game Boy, stages are presented to the player in sets of four. Here, the chosen order is the one that follows the chain of subsequent weaknesses and, at the same time, allows to collect all items with mininum number of re-visits to previous stages.

Suggested order for Normal Mode:

  1. Storm Eagle: the stage conceals the Head Upgrade, necessary to get the Arm Upgrade in the fourth stage;
  2. Flame Stag: weak against Storm Eagle's weapon;
  3. Chill Penguin: weak against Flame Stag's weapon;
  4. Spark Mandrill: weak against Chill Penguin's weapon; use the Head Upgrade to obtain the Arm Upgrade in this stage.

Suggested order for Hard Mode:

  1. Armored Armadillo: the only stage where Dr. Light's capsule can be reached without any other equipment part;
  2. Morph Moth: weak against Armored Armadillo's weapon;
  3. Magna Centipede: weak against Morph Moth's weapon;
  4. Wheel Gator: weak against Magna Centipede's weapon;
    • After you defeat Wheel Gator, you have to revisit the first part of Morph Moth's stage to get the last Dr. Light's capsule.

In Extreme Mode it is suggested to defeat first the four Mavericks from Normal Mode (and collect the four Upgrades), then defeat the other four (and collect the four Zero Scramble programs). Indeed, Armored Armadillo is weak against Spark Mandrill's weapon.
