In Minecraft, the many creatures both friendly and hostile that populate the world are known as Mobs (short for mobiles). They come in a range of different sizes and types. In addition to specific drops, most mobs drop experience orbs and (rarely, if applicable) their held items or armor when killed.

They are categorized into several categories depending on their role.

Playable[edit]

These are you!

The player[edit]

The default skin for the player is known as 'Steve?'.

This is the person you play as. (The only way to encounter one besides yourself is in Multiplayer.) The skin of the player is entirely customizable. For more info, see the 'Controls' section.

The player can jump one block high (without potions) and has ten hearts (20 HP). Their ability to build, mine, and craft gives them the most potential of any mob. They drop their inventory when killed.

Passive[edit]

These creatures are passive to what you do. No matter how much you hit them, they aren't going to attack you.

Chicken[edit]

Chickens will occasionally lay eggs that you can collect. They spawn on land during daytime. They can be bred with seeds. They drop raw chicken and feathers when killed.

Cow[edit]

An empty bucket right-clicked on this will fill the bucket with milk, which cures poison, removes potion effects & can be used for making cake. They spawn on land during daytime. They can be bred with wheat. They drop raw beef and leather when killed.

Mooshroom[edit]

Mooshrooms have all the properties of a cow, but are a different color and have mushrooms growing on them. this hybrid can also be milked with a bowl to get mushroom stew and sheared with shears to get red mushrooms (but turning it into a cow). They spawn on land during daytime (although only in mushroom island biomes). They spawn on land during daytime. They drop raw beef, leather, and mushrooms when killed.

Pig[edit]

These animals just wander around. They spawn on land during daytime. They can be bred with carrots. They drop raw porkchops when killed.

Sheep[edit]

Sheep's wool can be dyed any color. Sheep can be sheared to get their wool. Wool grows back after eating grass. They spawn on land during daytime. They can be bred with wheat. They drop raw mutton and wool when killed.

Squid[edit]

Squids just swim around. They spawn in water and suffocate outside water. They drop ink sacs when killed.

Villager[edit]

Villagers spawn in villages. Most can trade with the player using emeralds. They breed automatically if there are enough doors nearby.

Frog[edit]

Fish[edit]

Spawns naturally in rivers and oceans.

Allay[edit]

Neutral[edit]

These creatures are Neutral, as in they won't attack you... unless you provoke them.

Enderman[edit]

Endermen are tall characters who shares lots of similarities with Slenderman. If you look at them with your cursor or attempt to hit them, they will scream and attack you. They are capable of teleporting Endermen are also very strong and hard to defeat. They spawn in dark places. They drop ender pearls when defeated, which are required to beat the game.

Zombie Pigman[edit]

Half-zombie, half-pig creatures with golden swords. If attacked, they and other zombie pigmen in the area attack you. They spawn in the Nether. They drop gold ingots and gold nuggets when killed.

Hostile[edit]

These guys are angry and mean. If they see you, they will come towards you and attack. Be ready to fight them or find somewhere to run or hide.

Blaze[edit]

Flying creatures made of fire. They spawn in the Nether in nether fortresses Drops blaze rods (these can be crafted into blaze powder, required to beat the game) when killed.

Creeper[edit]

Exploding mobs. They spawn in dark places. They drop gunpowder when killed.

Ghast[edit]

Flying creatures. They spawn in the Nether. They drop ghast tears when killed.

Magma Cube[edit]

Bouncing creatures. They spawn in the Nether. They split into multiple magma cubes and drop magma cream when killed.

Silverfish[edit]

Very small creatures. They spawn in strongholds and from infested stone blocks.

Skeleton[edit]

Mobs that always have bows. They spawn in dark places. They drop arrows and bones when killed.

Slime[edit]

Bouncing mobs. They spawn in swamps and specific areas underground. Splits into multiple slimes and drops slimeballs when killed.

Spider[edit]

Mobs that can climb walls. Spawns in dark places. Drops string and spider eyes when killed.

Cave Spider[edit]

Identical to spiders, but poisonous and only spawn in abandonded mineshafts.

Spider Jockey[edit]

A skeleton riding a spider.

Zombie[edit]

Basic mobs. Spawns in dark places. Drops rotten flesh and (very rarely) carrots, iron, gold, and/or potatoes when killed. Can spawn with iron weapons and may drop them on death.

Drowned=[edit]

Variant of zombie that can spawn with nautilis shells or tridents and can swim.

Warden[edit]

An extremely dangerous mob that only spawns from skulk shriekers in ancient cities. They are incredibly powerful, having strong melee and an armor-piercing projectile. They can be avoided by sneaking and not breaking blocks when near the shriekers or by breaking the shriekers (although this will activate any other nearby shriekers). Their weakness is that they are blind, and rely on sound and smell to target mobs. The smell is unavoidable, but sound can be mitigated by sneaking or walking on wool.

Piglin[edit]

Bipedal nether pigs with golden swords and crossbows. Hostile to hoglins as well. Will trade gold for random items instead of attacking you if you wear gold armor.

Hoglins[edit]

Big hostile warthogs in the nether.

Piglin brute[edit]

Tameable[edit]

These creatures may run, or stand around, or attack you if you make them mad, or do many other behaviors, but you can coax them out of that if you do the right sequence of events to tame them - then they can follow you around as pets!

Ocelot[edit]

Tamed with raw fish. Scares creepers off. Takes no fall damage. They spawn in jungles. They kill chickens on sight.

Wolf[edit]

Tamed with bones. Collar can be dyed a different color. Attacks enemies you attack. They spawn in forests. Will attack you (along with any wolves nearby) if attacked while untamed.

Cat[edit]

Almost identical to ocelots, but spawn naturally in villages.

Utility[edit]

These creatures are built. You may have to stack some snow or iron blocks in certain manners to build them, and then they will help you if you know what you are doing.

Iron Golem[edit]

Spawned by placing 4 iron blocks in a T-shape and a pumpkin on top. Great defense against mobs. Also spawns naturally in villages. Drops iron and poppies. Becomes hostile to players if attacked. Can also spawn in pillager outpost cages.

Snow Golem[edit]

Spawned by stacking two snow blocks and putting a pumpkin on top. Trows snowballs at enemies. The head can be sheared. Leaves a layer of snow behind. Drops snowballs.

Bosses[edit]

The big guys. These creatures will take a while to take down, have their own health bars, destroy all blocks (except bedrock, obsidian, and end stone) on contace, and have very special strategies for defeating them.

Ender Dragon[edit]

Only in the end dimension, this is Minecraft's final boss. It can only be defeated after the ender crystals on obsidian pillars are destroyed, ideally with a bow since they explode. Fires dragon breath and swoops to the central bedrock structure. Drops a large amount of XP and a dragon egg when killed.

Wither[edit]

An optional superboss. Spawned by placing 4 blocks of soul sand in a T shape and 3 wither skeleton skulls on top. Explodes after being spawned. Fires wither skeleton skulls. When at half HP, it becomes immune to arrows and starts trying to run into the player (or any passive mobs). Drops a nether star when killed.

Unused[edit]

Unused mobs are in the game, but they do not spawn naturally - you will have to use external programs to spawn them.

Giant[edit]

Removed[edit]

These creatures used to be in the game, before they were removed. Now their data doesn't exist in Minecraft.

Rana[edit]
