In the game there are two 'characters' which you can hire, from the Supplies Catalogue to come to your clinic.

Jack[edit]

Jack is a man who will look after the animals if you are completely swamped. You can hire him for £100 a day, and each day he will turn up and just lie on the bench outside the clinic. If you think he is being lazy, the only reason he isn't doing anything is because you have to tell him what to do.

You can switch characters from the vet to Jack, and whichever you are playing in, to get Jack to do something yuu need to click on the bench. Like when you click on an animal, you can select what you want him to do. You can tell him to feed the animals (although it's better to ask the vet to do this, since he'll feed all the animals even if they aren't hungry and it'll be a waste of food), play with them, pet them, and clean the enclosures. Jack automatically gets food when he is hungry.

If you want Jack to get better at things, like the vet gets more dots on the metres, he needs to read books. Unlike the vet who just has to do the thing a lot. It costs you to make Jack study and, depending on how good he already is at something, may take more time. So, if the clinic is pretty empty and your vet can handle it on her own, make Jack study all day!

If you decide to hire him, he will arrive at 8:00 in the morning and leave at 5:00 in the afternoon. If you ever get bored of Jack being around all the time, just go in control of him and click 'dismiss'.

The Mother Mare[edit]

You must care for The Mother Mare just like other horses.

When you purchase the mother mare, she will appear in the horse and foal enclosure (so you need to build it first) and she will foster all the foals. But, like the other horses, you need to care for her. If you neglect her, the game is over. But, there is one thing that makes her different from other horses (other than not needing follow-up treatment)… you can ride her! If you have free time, click on the Mare and select 'ride', and you can ride her around behind the clinic while being chased by a foal.

Once you have purchased the mother mare, she will stay in the horse enclosure and count as one of the horses, and she never leaves, so think before you click the purchase button!
