Friend Areas are areas that can be reached by going left from your Team Base until you hit a pathway going left. When you reach that a list will appear with all of your recruited Pokémon listed. You can change the order they are listed in by hitting .

Friend areas can be achieved three different ways.

1. Buy them from Jigglypuff's store, located next to Felicity Bank in Pokémon Square.
2. Rescue a Pokémon offering a Friend Area as an award for completing the mission.
3. After you beat the game some Legendary Pokémon should be possible to recruit now. It is not possible to buy their Friend Areas, so they will give theirs to you once they join your rescue team.

After saving Diglett at Mt. Steel friend areas will become available the next day. Wigglytuff will give you 2 friend areas for free: Wild Plains and Mist-Rise Forest. After getting them Magnemite shows up and is able to get Wigglytuff to also give you the Power Plant friend area so Magnemite can join the rescue team.
