Throughout this breakdown, each step will be denoted by a regular bullet, or an indented bullet.

  • A normal bullet is a step that must be taken in order to proceed.
    • An indented bullet is a step that is optional, and may be skipped.

Checklist[edit]

  • Start your journey for becoming the greatest trainer of your region. After talking to May/Brendan, go to Route 101 to save Professor Birch from a wild Poochyena. Choose your starter.
  • Fight againt your Rival on Route 103 and come back to Littleroot Town so you get your Pokédex and some Pokéballs.
    • Learn with your Rival how to fight a Pokémon, which appears in the grass.
  • Go through Route 102 to reach Petalburg City.
  • Meet your father at the Gym and help Wally catch his first Pokémon.
  • Go through the South part of Route 104 to reach the Petalburg Woods.
