Route 104 South

Route 104 is split into two parts, with Petalburg Woods separating them. This southern section contains a nice beach, along with Mr. Briney's house, a couple of Trainers, and a strand of Pecha and Oran Berry Trees. You can see that the north-eastern quarter of the route is blocked off by a ledge; you'll need to go into Petalburg Woods and find its eastern exit in order to access this, which has a Poké Ball at the end.

On the beach proper, there is a Trainer running around in the sand and some Wingull you can use your DexNav on. This way is useful to bypass the grass patch that covers the other path through the route. Just above the beach is Mr. Briney's house. Mr. Briney is an old sailor who lives alone with his sprightly Wingull, Peeko. But the cottage is currently empty. Briney must be somewhere else. The last bit of the route has another Trainer waiting and leads directly into Petalburg Woods.

The Trainers here are considerably tougher than the ones you defeated in Route 102, with team members ranging from Level 4 to Level 8. Still, they should not be any trouble provided you've been caring for your team.

New Pokémon

#276 Taillow

Pick up this Normal/Flying guy if you can--having a Flying-type in your possession will make the second Gym much easier. With fantastic Speed (his evolution, Swellow, is the fastest non-legendary Normal type in the game) and decent Attack, Taillow can be a real asset early-game, though he won't be any good against the first Gym. His level-up movepool is quite shallow, but it certainly contains the moves he needs, and upon evolving to Swellow he can get the ridiculously powerful Brave Bird. His ability is Guts, increasing his Attack by 50% if he has a status condition, and burns will not affect him. Taillow's main drawback is his frailty, and Normal/Flying is a pretty poor typing.
