Now, you are in the outskirts of Hau'oli City, which the game treats as Route 1. You can catch Slowpoke and Wingull, but those aren't really worth much. There are also two trainers:

As for wild Pokemon, they're mostly the same as on Route 1 proper, but with one new Pokemon:
#736 Grubbin: Grubbin's the regional bug of Alola: it starts out as a pure Bug type, evolves into Charjabug, and then as Vikavolt, becomes Bug/Electric. At each stage it has a different ability: respectively, Swarm, Battery (raises special moves of an ally), and then Levitate. Vikavolt is a useful Pokemon in battle, and quite strong, but sadly, you can't get it until you reach Vast Poni Canyon. If you want a useful Bug-type, then it might just be worth the work to train this little guy.
Southwest is the Research Lab, where Professor Kukui works from. Enter!
Research Lab[edit]
Now, Professor Kukui will add Rotom to your Pokedex so that it fully works. You can now use the Town Map. He will also give you a special amulet to show that you are on the island challenge, and tells you to go to the Trainers' School, in Hau'oli City's Shopping District.
On your dex, Quick Link, Festival Plaza (see Appendix), and the QR code scanner have all been added.
Shopping District[edit]
When you arrive, there is immediately a Pokemon Center to your right. In Alola, these are similar to other regions, but with the addition of a cafe.
