This rustic, historical town might not be as exciting as Santalune and Lumiose, but it could contain clues to the mystery of Mega Evolution. Shabboneau Castle is the main attraction of the town, but there are other interesting people to meet around town too, including the mysterious "Someone" that manages the Pokémon storage system.

Exploring the historic town[edit]

Meet Cassius[edit]

Upon entering the town, you will receive a Holo Clip stating that Lysandre's company, Lysandre Labs, developed the Holo Caster you're currently using. It's certainly an interesting fact, and you will soon meet the person responsible for another one of Kalos' technological conveniences, the Pokémon Storage System. Go into the first house you can see and talk to the man inside. He will introduce himself as Cassius, the technician that maintains the Pokémon Storage System in Kalos. You can learn about the various features of the storage system from him, and talking to him also causes the tab for the storage system to change from "Someone's PC" to "Cassius's PC". As an additional reward, you can talk to the girl standing at the back of the room to obtain TM46 Thief, a Dark-type move that lets your Pokémon steal the opponent's held item provided that its user isn't already holding an item. It can be quite handy for obtaining rare items from wild Pokémon without actually having to capture them.

Pokémon Center[edit]

The Pokémon Center of Camphrier Town serves as a simple healing spot. The Poké Mart contains the usual items, and most of the people inside don't have any useful information for you. However, one person of interest is the man in the suit, who is the Kalos region's Name Rater. As long as a Pokémon is caught by you in this particular game and is not traded or obtained from events, you can request the Name Rater to rename it. Pokémon nicknames are a nice but mostly unimportant feature, so feel free to ignore the Name Rater if you're just focused on getting through the game.

Hotel Camphrier[edit]

Camphrier is the first town in your journey that contains a hotel. You can't actually stay in the hotel, but talking to the people inside can sometimes yield interesting results. Talk to the guest near the staircase to get the Full Heal, a very useful item that completely heals all of a Pokémon's status ailments. On the second floor, you can see a variety of guests staying in the first room. There's a Hiker, a Waiter, a Madame, a Maid, a Tourist and a Backpacker, in that order, each staying in the hotel for a day. Talk to them enough times and they will give you rewards. The Waiter gives you a Rage Candy Bar, the Madamae gives you a Lava Cookie, and the Backpacker gives you a Strange Souvenir. The Hiker offers to trade his Magikarp for a Gyarados, while the Maid offers to trade an Eevee holding a Rare Candy with whatever you offer.

In the second room, you will find a woman staying there every Tuesday. Talk to her to receive the Shock Ribbon, which will be attached to your lead Pokémon. Ribbons are a mostly aesthetic feature that commemorates certain events, and you can view them in your Pokémon's summary. Go to the third room from the left to meet Mr. Bonding. He will grant you the Sp. Atk. Power O-Power, which can be accessed from the PSS.

Other locations of interest[edit]

There is one house left to explore, which is the building located in the upper-left of the town. Enter it and talk to the man inside. He will ask you to show him a Pokémon of a certain type, which changes daily. If you show him a Pokémon of that type, he will either give you a Cheri Berry, Chesto Berry, Pecha Berry, Rawst Berry or Aspear Berry, which automatically clear a specific status ailment if held by a Pokémon. You can talk to him daily to get more berries. You can also talk to the maid to receive a Sweet Heart, which is basically a free Potion. Visit her daily to get more Sweet Hearts, and talk to her on Valentine's Day to get five Sweet Hearts at once!

The people roaming around town have some useful items to give you. Talk to the man outside the Pokémon Center to receive an Ultra Ball, a Poké Ball with a higher catch rate than a Great Ball. Talk to the red-haired girl near the western exit of the town to get the Berry Juice, which is basically a stronger variant of the Oran Berry. There are also some items you can find by searching around. Go through the gate at the south wall of the town to run down a winding path with a Star Piece at the end, which you can sell for a good price. Check the bush beyond the Star Piece for an Ether. Back in town, hop down the ledge to the left of Hotel Camphrier to reach an X Attack, then investigate the bush to the upper left of the fountain to get an Antidote.

Shabboneau Castle[edit]

Shabboneau Castle is the primary landmark of Camphrier Town, and it could hold clues about the myth of Mega Evolution due to its old age. Go across the drawbridge at the north of town to enter the historic castle. Shauna is already inside, and the owner of the castle will explain the castle's origins, but he doesn't know anything about Mega Evolution. He will soon leave to investigate an unrelated matter, so you can take your time exploring the castle. Unfortunately, there really isn't anything of interest in the castle, and the whole place is actually rather barren. However, you can find an Escape Rope on the second floor at the southern end of the main hall.

Continuing onward[edit]

Exploring Shabboneau Castle yielded no information about the legend of Mega Evolution, but you can always try your luck in other towns, and there are still gyms to challenge. You can leave Camphrier Town through the west gate to continue along your journey. However, an unforeseen event has occurred on Route 7, and this event might prevent you from progressing in your journey!
