Risen is a single player RPG for Windows and Xbox 360 developed by Piranha Bytes and published by Deep Silver. The game was ported to the Xbox 360 by Wizarbox. Risen was released worldwide on October 2, 2009 for both platforms, although the North American Xbox 360 version was delayed until February 22, 2010. Risen's gameplay shares many similarities with Piranha Bytes' Gothic series. A sequel, Risen 2: Dark Waters, was announced at Gamescom 2010.

Plot[edit]

Risen takes place on the volcanic tropical island of Faranga. Recently, ancient temple ruins have risen from the ground, providing access to a network of dungeons and catacombs but also resulting in an increased number of dangerous monsters roaming the island. Because of this Inquisitor has forbidden anyone from leaving the city and rules over the island with an iron fist. The game opens when the nameless protagonist awakens on a beach after a storm wrecks the ship he was travelling on.
