Road Runner's Death Valley Rally/Zippity Splat boss

Wile E. Coyote's dastardly plan.

The first boss level, Wile E. Coyote has set up a spiked catapult to the far right side of the map. It is placed amongst cacti, so don't try jumping past it or onto the catapult arm. Wile E. is off to the right, standing on the hill feeding the catapult rocks. Road Runner cannot harm Wile E. directly; Road Runner must destroy the catapult to win this level.

Boss: Catapult

After Road Runner pecks the catapult from this position, its arm will swing 180 degrees and try to hit The Road Runner. Move off to the left before this happens!

Upon defeat, Wile E. Coyote chooses not to surrender and interrupts the fat lady's singing.

The blueprints show that there's a weak point at the front of the catapult. Don't go too fast up the platforms because under the catapult is a bunch of spiky bushes which will damage you for 1 point. Rocks thrown by the catapult will damage you for one point. The catapult's spiky arm will damage you for two points.

Get in front of the catapult, and peck away. If you get there just when it's throwing a boulder, keep pecking for a few seconds, and when you see the catapult go to throw another, hold and then quickly tap and then to get away from it and leap all the way back to the start. You may hit a rock and take one damage, but it's better than getting hit by the arm and taking two damage.
