Second Life. Not too many games hold the features that this one does. It has such a variety of people, groups, games, items, locations, and a great potential for expansion, individuality, and creativity.

This is an MMORPG, a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. Unlike some MMOs, there are absolutely no non-player characters (NPCs) in this game. Every character you encounter is a living person, with ideas and feelings. You should keep this in mind and try to be polite.

Understand, however, that some people will be jerks no matter how you act. This is not your typical MMORPG. There are no levels to gain, no EXP to earn. There are no monsters to slay for loot. So what IS Second Life?

Second Life shines as a social and role playing experience—one in which all content (items, buildings, settings) are built by the residents (players). That's right—all of the wonderful items, clothes, vehicles, weapons, homes, etc. are made by your fellow gamers. All of these things can be purchased with an in-game currency known as the Linden dollar. The incredible freedom of the world and its inhabitants, including the ability to change your appearance whenever and wherever you wish, give it incredible potential as a place for virtual roleplay.

Due to the open-ended nature of this game and a relatively lax set of rules, there is adult content featured in the game, which may be mentioned in this guide. If this content bothers you, avoid the sections tagged adult, and stay out of Mature sims within the Grid.

Also, note that many people say that, "Second Life is not a game, it is a place." There are no rules, no points, no stages or levels, no winners, no losers, no goals or objectives, no quests, and no enemy. Instead, think of Second Life as a new world, and when you first arrive there, you are an like a recent poor immigrant who does not know the local customs.

Second Life is a game for players aged 18+, teens 12-17 may join Teen Second Life.
