Outside several stores in Shenmue you'll find small gashopon machines - Capsule Toy dispensers that give you a little plastic toy or figure in exchange for ¥100. They don't serve much purpose in the grand scheme of the game, but there's some pretty cool trinkets to be had. There are six machines total.

There are two machines in Sakuragaoka right outside of the Abe Store - a green "SEGA" one and a yellow "Virtua Fighter" one.

There are three Capsule machines in the Harbor Lounge, one of which will give you some fairly intricate (but possibly boring) harbor-area vehicles to collect. The harbor models are some of my favourites though, because they give you a chance to examine the in-game models close-up.
