At the title screen, choose whether to start a one- or two-player game. You will then get to choose a save slot and name the save file. Regardless of what you call the file the two playable characters are still called Kunio and Riki. For the sake of simplicity this walkthrough will only refer to Kunio, even though both characters may be present.
