Wonders are similar to buildings in that they must be built in cities and provide useful bonuses. However, most wonders have high Production costs but provide greater bonuses, in addition to having some form of limit to their construction.

Wonders can be split into three categories: World Wonders, National Wonders and Projects.

World Wonders[edit]

World Wonders provide the greatest output and usually an additional effect as well as increase the Great Person Points of a particular Great Person in the city it was built. There can be only one World Wonder of each type in the game. If one civilization were to complete a World Wonder, the progress of all remaining civilizations to completing that wonder is lost, and the wasted Production is converted to Gold as compensation. Conquering a city with a World Wonder will grant you the effects of that wonder.

National Wonders[edit]

National Wonders provide more generic bonuses like a straight output boost of a particular currency such as Gold or Culture. There can only be one of each type of National Wonder within a civilization, and usually requires a certain building to be constructed in all cities in your empire, making them unattractive to sprawling civilizations. Each National Wonder has the same initial cost, though the cost will go up the more cities there are in your empire.

Projects[edit]

Projects are similar to National Wonders in that each civilization can only build it once, though instead of granting a bonus, projects open up new options that are usually important to victory.
