You need to travel west from the Upper City elevator and enter the Hidden Bek Base to exchange your Sith armor for papers before you can enter the Undercity further to the west. You'll need to fight, or run or sneak past, members of the Black Vulkar gang as you go.

You won't be able to get into the Black Vulkar Base at the east end of the Lower City yet, but killing its guards is still advisable. You don't need to enter the east or west apartments, but you can get some good items and complete bounties inside. You also don't need to enter Javyar's Cantina to the west before completing the search for Bastila, but you're introduced to some characters you encounter later and you can earn credits by playing Pazaak and collecting bounties.

Map of the Lower City

Upper City[edit]

You enter the Lower City from the Upper City elevator to the south of a crossroads. When you first approach it, an altercation between three Black Vulkars and three Hidden Beks takes place just to the west:

KotOR Icon Dialog.png Black Vulkar: Beks are nothing but bantha fodder! The Vulkars are strongest!
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Hidden Bek: We'll teach you who's strongest!

They fight, and the three Black Vulkars prevail before noticing you:

KotOR Icon Dialog.png Black Vulkar: More strangers! KotOR Icon Dialog.png Black Vulkar: Sith aren't welcome here!

The victorious Black Vulkars attack you:

To the east from the crossroads above the Upper City elevator, you'll see the entrance to the Black Vulkar base. Between the crossroads and the entrance you'll see a Twi'lek corpse on the right just beyond a smoking swoop bike:

Although you cannot enter when you first arrive in the Lower City, killing these two guards is advisable for light side characters who refuse Kandon Ark's offer once inside, since they'll be there when you exit with the swoop accelerator for the Hidden Beks; it's also advisable for dark side characters, since after accepting Kandon Ark's offer and exiting, the guards and all other Black Vulkars in the Lower City will be gone.

After exiting you'll be able to enter again, although all remaining Black Vulkars within will be hostile. After traveling west from the crossroads above the Upper City elevator until you're halfway round the bend to the north, a Vulkar enforcer and two Black Vulkars appear to the left of the Twi'lek corpse, where they'll be waiting for you when you exit and return to the Hidden Bek base, unless you doubled back to kill them or accepted Kandon Ark's offer.

Apartments[edit]

To the north of the crossroads above the Upper City elevator, the east Lower City apartments are beyond the standard door ahead of you.

When you go west from the crossroads and enter the bend to the north, a Vulkar enforcer and two Black Vulkars appear to the north of the crossroads by the entrance to these apartments, presumably to ambush you upon your return.

Javyar's Cantina[edit]

Go west from the crossroads above the Upper City elevator, round the bend to the north and you'll see the door to Javyar's Cantina in the west wall guarded by a Rodian bouncer on the right.

Security Javyar's Cantina Unlock 100 (80) Bash Resist - Vitality -

You have to speak to the bouncer to be let in, although nobody can be equipping Sith Armor:

KotOR Icon Dialog.png Bouncer: Hold on. The Sith commanders have said I can't let any of you troopers into the cantina while you're on duty.
Dialog
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 1. I'm not on duty right now. KotOR Icon Dialog.png 2. I'll be going now.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Bouncer: No? Then why are you in uniform? Sorry, but you aren't the first trooper to try and sneak in for a quick drink while out on patrol.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Bouncer: You can come back after your shift if you want. Just remember our rule:

Otherwise:

KotOR Icon Dialog.png Bouncer: Don't cause any trouble in Javyar's cantina. You leave your problems and your attitude at the door.

Although it isn't necessary to enter until escaping Taris, you can meet Mission and Zaalbar here if you don't already have Sith papers from Gadon Thek in the Hidden Bek base, meet Calo Nord if you haven't completed the search for Bastila, or play Pazaak or visit the Bounty Office to earn some credits.

Hidden Bek Base[edit]

Past the Rodian bouncer outside Javyar's Cantina you'll see the door to the Hidden Bek base in the east wall, guarded by a lookout on the left: at this point, both she and the bouncer are invulnerable and will attack any Black Vulkars that come within range.

Security Hidden Bek Base Unlock 100 (80) Bash Resist - Vitality -

You have to speak to the lookout to be let in, although nobody can be equipping Sith Armor:

KotOR Icon Dialog.png Hidden Bek Lookout: Sorry, but your kind aren't welcome in here. The Hidden Beks don't care much for you Sith.
Dialog
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 1. You better change your tone if you know what's good for you! KotOR Icon Dialog.png 2. Let me in or I come back with a hundred Sith troopers! KotOR Icon Dialog.png 3. I'll be going now.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Hidden Bek Lookout: The swoop gangs rule down here, not you! You may have conquered Upper Taris, but you don't have enough troops to sweep the whole Lower City. You come down here in force and we'll pick you off in hit-and-run battles, then vanish like smoke into the back alleys and hidden tunnels where you'll never find us! Stick to the Upper City where people are actually scared of you; your threats don't count for much down here. KotOR Icon Dialog.png Hidden Bek Lookout: Yeah, you do that. Go back to the Upper City where your shiny uniforms will make the citizens quake in their boots.

Otherwise:

KotOR Icon Dialog.png Hidden Bek Lookout: Hey, you can't just walk in here! This is the Hidden Bek base. How do I know you're not a Vulkar spy sent to kill Gadon Thek?
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 3. Sorry. I'll be going now.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Hidden Bek Lookout: Fair enough. But here's some free advice: get off the streets. The Black Vulkars are taking shots at anyone wandering the streets of the Lower City.

Otherwise:

KotOR Icon Dialog.png 1. I'm no spy! KotOR Icon Dialog.png 3. I go wherever I want!
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Hidden Bek Lookout: Maybe so, but this door is locked and it's going to stay that way until I'm satisfied you're no threat to Gadon or the Hidden Beks.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 2. I need Gadon's help. I was told to speak to him. KotOR Icon Dialog.png 1. I have to speak to Gadon. It's important.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Hidden Bek Lookout: A lot of people want to go inside and speak to Gadon. He's a hero of the common folk. But the days of the Hidden Beks' open-door policy are gone. Between the Sith conquest and the Vulkar gang war Gadon has more enemies than he used to. We're being careful about who we let in now.
Never 1. [Persuade] Maybe a bribe could get me in?
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Hidden Bek Lookout: [Failure] My loyalty's not for sale! I've been with the Hidden Beks for years, and I'm not going to desert Gadon now just because everyone else is turning against him!
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 2. Maybe I could be an ally against all those enemies.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Hidden Bek Lookout: Well, we do need all the help we can get. And you don't look like you're with the Vulkars or the Sith. Besides, it's not like you can do anything to harm Gadon in the heart of his own base. Not with Zaerdra watching his back.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 1. So you're going to let me in?
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Hidden Bek Lookout: Go in and speak to Gadon if you want. Just remember to be on your best behaviour... the Hidden Beks are watching you.

If you speak to her after winning the swoop race for the Hidden Beks:

KotOR Icon Dialog.png Hidden Bek Lookout: Hey – I recognize you! You're the one who won the swoop race! You better be careful out here. Those damn Vulkars will be looking to get even with you for winning that race and killing Brejik.

You can now enter the Hidden Bek Base.

Apartments[edit]

When you pass the Hidden Bek Base, travel north and enter the bend to the west, a Vulkar enforcer and two Black Vulkars appear ahead of you.

The entrance to the west Lower City apartments is beyond the standard door to the south of the T-junction ahead. When you first arrive, you'll see three people meeting there. As you approach, Davik's agent will be joined by the Mandalorian mercenary Canderous Ordo as he talks to two Black Vulkars:

KotOR Icon Dialog.png Davik's Agent: You guys are behind with your payments. What do you uh, you think just ‘cause you're in some gang you don't have to give Davik his cut?
Dialog
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Black Vulkar: I don't see Davik doing anything for his share. We do all the work. Davik claims he's part of the Exchange, so let's see him prove it.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Black Vulkar: Yeah, let's see the big crime lord come and get his money from the Black Vulkars!
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Davik's Agent: Ah, so you want to play this the hard way? Haha. OK. *sharp whistle*
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Black Vulkar: Oh, hey... Canderous. We didn't know you was working for Davik now.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Black Vulkar: Yeah, we were just goofin' around here. We don't want no trouble with a Mandalorian. Here's Davik's cut.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Davik's Agent: I knew you boys would see reason. Now get out of here.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Canderous Ordo: Too bad. I was looking forward to cracking some heads.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Davik's Agent: Maybe next time, Canderous. I better get this over to Davik. I'll call you if anyone else gets behind on their payments.

You can speak briefly to Canderous before he starts walking off:

KotOR Icon Dialog.png Canderous Ordo: Those Vulkars are dumber than a Coruscant granite slug! They actually think being in that pathetic little gang of theirs makes them important. Gadon keeps his hidden Beks in line, but Brejik's getting dreams of grandeur. If Davik's smart, he'll slap that young punk back down.
Dialog
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 1. Who are you? KotOR Icon Dialog.png 2. I need to ask you some questions. KotOR Icon Dialog.png 3. I'll be going now.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Canderous Ordo: I'm someone you don't want to get on the bad side of, and I'm not one for small talk. KotOR Icon Dialog.png Canderous Ordo: Sorry, but I don't usually volunteer information to anyone who just asks.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Canderous Ordo: Besides, you know the arrangement. You Sith don't interfere with Davik's business and you all get a nice cut of his action.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Canderous Ordo: I don't have time to stick around here, anyway. Davik's got me working on a special assignment.

Undercity[edit]

As you continue west past the entrance to the west apartments, another Vulkar enforcer and two Black Vulkars will appear up ahead, hidden on the left.

Continue west to the Undercity elevator, guarded by five blaster turrets (three to the left and two to the right) and a Sith soldier to the right. If anyone is still equipping Sith Armor:

KotOR Icon Dialog.png Sith Soldier: Hold on – where do you think you're going? This area is restricted to Undercity patrols! Without the proper security papers I can't let you past.
Never 1. [Persuade] I forgot my security papers back at the base. Never 2. [Persuade] I've got orders to join up with one of the Undercity patrols.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Sith Soldier: [Failure] I don't know how they do things in the Upper City, but down here we follow our orders to the letter! Without your security papers I can't let you past. So just march on back to the base, talk to your commanding officer and tell him you need the security papers. Otherwise you ain't getting down.

Otherwise:

KotOR Icon Dialog.png Sith Soldier: Hold on there, civilian! Only those with official Sith business are allowed into the Undercity. Unless you've got the proper security papers you better just turn around and go back the way you came.
Dialog
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 1. Where can I get these security papers?
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Sith Soldier: You can't... not unless you're on official Sith business. And if you were, someone would already have given you the papers.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 2. I want to ask you some questions.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Sith Soldier: I'm not here to answer your questions. My orders are to guard the elevator. Now either show me the proper security papers or move along.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png 4. I'll be going now.
KotOR Icon Dialog.png Sith Soldier: Good... I don't have time for this foolishness. Down here we run a tight ship – not like the slipshod operation in the Upper City.

Regardless of how anyone is equipped, never select this response:

KotOR Icon Dialog.png 3. You can't keep me out if you're dead! KotOR Icon Dialog.png Sith Soldier: You just made a big mistake!

Indeed: the Sith soldier and blaster turrets are all invulnerable, and have On Hit: Instant Death, DC 100.

KotOR Icon Dialog.png Sith Soldier: Let me see... hmmm, these look to be in order. Okay, you can go down if you want. Can't say I envy you, though. The Undercity is crawling with mutants. Rakghouls, they call 'em. If you see anything moving down there, shoot first and ask questions later.

If you try to speak to him again:

KotOR Icon Dialog.png Sith Soldier: Hey, you've already shown me your security clearance. You don't have to speak to me every time you come by. If you need to use the elevator to the Undercity just go ahead. Just be careful down there. Watch out for those rakghouls!
