What Else?[edit]

What else should we put in the guide? - Phantom

-->I think that we need to give a short description of each mission, as well as clean up all the mission pages, as they are kind of messy. Please message me if you would like me to help, as I am rather good with grammar and English. Pyro

--->If you want to do that, it would be great. --DesertFox_59 {X} 16:50, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

Sure. Pyro

I'd like to suggest that the authors of this book pick an overall book title, and somehow add it to the titles of all the pages, to fend off future disambiguation. How many books here might link to America's Army/Contributors, America's Army/Basic Tactics/Hints or America's Army/Links of Interest? Look around at the other books, to see the various ways of labeling the pages in a book. Gentgeen 04:59, 25 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Good point Gentgeen, thanks :) - Phantom

Should we have a news section? Ive also put links back to the main page in some places. DesertFox

I think the recent changes part is good enough. However, what are your thoughts on asking people to translate the guide into different languages possibly? - Phantom

Could do. Ill do it if you want. --Desertfox 59 23:29, 26 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Does this support Java script? Also what about weapon specific guides?--Desertfox 59 23:43, 26 Apr 2004 (UTC)

<script language="JavaScript1.2" src="http://www.altavista.com/static/scripts/translate_engl.js"></script>

The picture is nice, but it takes forever to load, and i have a fast cable connection. --24.91.222.42 17:33, 27 Apr 2004 (UTC)

You know, I think this guide belongs in Game Guides and Strategy. KirbyMeister 22:04, 4 May 2004 (UTC)

The thing with that, is that this game has a huge amount of detail, and is constantly being added to. There is a huge knowlage base for this guide to draw on as long as it stands alone. --Desertfox 59 02:12, 5 May 2004 (UTC)

Yeah... I guess we can just leave it for a while. BTW, should I atleast put a link from Game Guides and Strategy to this wikibook, so people looking in there could find these pages as well? KirbyMeister 19:09, 5 May 2004 (UTC)

That would be great, thanks. --Desertfox 59 23:32, 6 May 2004 (UTC)

A news section would be great in my opinion but we would really have to work hard to come up with our own news and not what is posted at other sites. -LDOG

I was thinking that maybe we could collect some of the major news posted on americasarmy.com and aaotracker.com.
I go there everyday anyways. --DesertFox_59 {X} 15:21, 31 May 2004 (UTC)

Some jerk was messing around with the book...here is his IP 64.12.116.143 check his future posts for things we don't like. - LDOG

So was this IP address: 68.79.170.99. (At least four edits on the main page, two deleted, but still in History). I'd just like to point out that if things are done that are not in the spirit of this book (and Internet life in general) we can make a report to the Abuse of your attendant IP. (This we can find out through a site such as DNS-Stuff). The laws on computer crime are catching up all the time. EuropracBHIT 04:01, 10 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Heres another one: 80.184.109.36 --DesertFox_59 {X} 02:06, 3 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Is 2.1 breaking news anymore, well thats the question should it be removed from the front page?

--Free Bear 10:42, 20 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Some nublet deleted the whole page. IP: 70.24.154.120 (tracert says hes in canada)

Its really easy to revert to any previous version, so dont try it.

I have gotten this page added under fan sites on the americas army home page. So if you see Lady Amthyst, give her a big Hooah for being kind enough to add this page --DesertFox_59 {X} 03:31, 27 Oct 2004 (UTC)

wikifying the back to main page links[edit]

i just wikifyed the back to main page links in all the map pages(SF and non SF) using [[AASFTactics|Back To Main Page]] so as to use internal links for intenal pages rather than the exteanal one that where there --Free_Bear 21:09, 28 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Modifying the Weapons Section[edit]

What are your reactions to pulling the weapons section out into one page that summarizes the weapons and what the opfor equivalents are? I'm thinking the information we'd like to have for each weapon might also include the code to use to get that weapon when practicing in single player as well as links to more detailed information about the weapon.

I'm not entirely sure how to handle tactics specific to each weapon. Possibly we can just include it in the description for each weapon.

We'd also need a section for general tactics for classes of weapons. Such tactics could include throwing any type of grenade, suggestions on when to use full-automatic fire versus semi-automatic fire.

sounds great if somone is up for doing it :)--Free_Bear 23:26, 29 Oct 2004 (UTC)

We could keep the current pages and just add an overview page containing the extra info and linking each weapon name to its page --DesertFox_59 {X} 23:58, 29 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Pendragon's School Posts[edit]

I've sent a private message to Pendragon on the official forums to see if he'd either contribute to the guide, or allow us to use his posts (http://forum.americasarmy.com/viewtopic.php?t=155867) as sources.

Canscorch 02:17, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[USMC]Pendragon (http://forum.americasarmy.com/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=104603) has given permission to use his posts.

I hid the links, but they are still there if you want to work on them. I just dont have the time. Click "edit" and you will find the links. --DesertFox_59 {X} 01:54, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Proposed rename[edit]

In order to be consistent with other wikibooks, the pages in this book would need to be prefixed "America's Army:Special Forces/" rather than "AASF ". We have a bot that can do this, whilst preserving links between all the pages, together with a willing bot user, so this wouldn't create any additional work for anyone writing this book. I trust this will be a non-controversial change, Jguk 08:05, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Look and info[edit]

Hey there, I really don't understand why this 'book' gets the 100% thing, nobody has read the conventions and wikifying hasn't been done... Just to quote a part: "I don't care whether you're among the 1337 pipe [players] or you prefer to hang out in the snow for 5 hours on the side of a mountain, there is one thing in CQB which can turn the most timid camper into a fearsome CQB champ". Every 5 lines end with a name of a writer who feels good enough to mention himself and the information is pretty useless. There is no history of AA, there is no general details, where does it say how to download/install/register? Couldn't the guys who have spent so much time writing this first read something about how to do it? It isn't so smart to place stuff like "today I heard this" in a book, you know.

In my opinion they should restart this book, map and gun info is fun, but it isn't essential, the info you want as a new guy is how to get started, how to fix problems and later you may want to know about the bullet size of the m16...

I totally agree with you on the rating issue- I have not played this game in a while now and hanvent check the wiki lately either, so that is how it is at the state it is now. However, I will have some free time soon so i will try to clean it up and get some more people on it. --DesertFox_59 {X} 20:53, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

I also agree. I am going to help tidy up this WikiBook and add more relevant content to it. Aphonik 17:21, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Transwiking[edit]

I started Transwiking this page to here. http://strategywiki.org/wiki/America%27s_Army
