Genres[edit]

Although wikipedia states its an action game, Drakengard 2 is noted as being a hack'n'slash game (also see game website for screenshots/video of game play) which is a thematic subgenre of Beat 'em up. Since the main gameplay is you vs. hundreds of soldiers like in Dynasty Warriors, the game is a non-traditional Beat 'em up, with other elements (aerial shooter/rpg like God of War). --Notmyhandle 15:26, 25 February 2007 (CST)

I was going to note something similar, in that this game could arguably be considered a "Beat'em up", but "Hack'n'slash" is much more appropriate, and we may want to consider that a proper sub-genre of Beat'em up. There's tons of Dynasty Warrior games, and if I'm not mistaken, Ninety Nine Nights would also fall under this category. So Drakengard is probably our first legitimate member of this genre. I would be in favor of establishing Hack'n'slash as a new subgenre of beat'em up. Procyon 15:50, 25 February 2007 (CST)
I personally am annoyed with genres...so many games can't be easily classified, some fall into too many genres. However, I would say that Action RPG should be good enough. -- 16:24, 25 February 2007 (CST)
You mean categorise it as both Action and RPG? We don't currently have a combined category. Of course if we do that that opens up the whole Japanese vs. western RPG issue... GarrettTalk 16:28, 25 February 2007 (CST)
