TO-DO LIST[edit]

Here's a to-do list for RuneScape:

  • Add more information to all the guides.
  • Improve the skill guides.
  • Vastly improve the 'members' quests' walkthroughs.
  • Get to work on the Construction Guide.

Archived[edit]

I have archived the old talk page, as it was pretty old. Richard 23:41, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

Pictures[edit]

Thissly needs pictures. It just looks so... bland. I'm suggesting that maybe some pics could be added to the skill guides right now. Anyone agree/disagree? --Richard 03:41, 17 April 2006 (UTC) Agree!

Couldnt agree more.--Megabug 16:21, 27 August 2006 (CDT)

Vandalism[edit]

One or more vandals have been going around adding rude sentences as well as references to websites and email addresses. I've reverted everything I could find already, which has included stuff in the members and item price guides as well as this page. However this particular vandal is very sneaky and seems to have added stuff to the end of sentences where it's hard to notice. Please read through some of the guides to see if you can find anything that I missed. Shadowsong 22:27, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

You know you can just go to history on a page to see who has edited them and exactly what changes they've made?
Vandalism? Grrr....hope they get punished--Megabug 16:27, 27 August 2006 (CDT)

Readability[edit]

I read a few pages, and they managed to use a lot of terms that I'm not very familiar with. I played Runescape for a while (although it WAS quite a bit ago) too. I think it'd be good if some of the runescape terminology intra-wiki linked to a terminology page and specifically to the section explaining it. Most of these guides are pretty slim on the intra-wiki links and I think this would make everything completly clear to those who are looking for info (since they are often not the best players at a game). -- Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions) 16:18, 4 May 2006 (PDT)

Just to refresh you, LOL means Laugh out loud. Hope that helps--Megabug 16:24, 27 August 2006 (CDT)

Construction Guide has been started![edit]

Hey everyone, I started the Construction Guide! If you want to add to it you can. Go to the Skills section of this page. --Megabug 16:20, 27 August 2006 (CDT)

And now a new quest guide is with us...[edit]

Eyes of Glouphrie quest guide has been added! Hooray! --Megabug 17:24, 27 August 2006 (CDT)

RuneScapeWiki[edit]

Hello world, I don't know if this has been discussed before, but I was searching for good guides for RuneScape and discovered http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page. This wiki guides seem to be more complete than ours. I think that we should use this wiki as are main source of information for RuneScape guides. Or we could just have a link from our main runescape page to runescape.wikia.com O_o Darth Vader 007 10:09, 9 February 2007 (CST)

Copying their content is immoral and would just lead to disparity. If you want to propose anything major (such as outsourcing our RuneScape guide (or part of it) to their wiki), please do so in community issues. --DrBob (Talk) 11:26, 9 February 2007 (CST)

The ToC[edit]

Hey, is there any specific reason most of the pages don’t have links in the ToC? It’s so weird that most of the ToC pages are just lists of links to more pages. Since there are so many hidden pages it’s also hard to find what is currently being looked for. Just asking so I don’t unintentionally kill the guide adding missing links.

Also, is it just me or is this guide too subpaged? Example: Beef and Snake (a lot of the specific monster pages have only 1 sentence of content). Just giving you a heads up on cleanup that will be happening unless there is some sort of valid reason for this. --Zaiqukaj 08:29, 5 April 2008 (CDT)

Do what you will with it! It's a complete mess, and as you say, there is too much subpaging and too many links missing from the ToC. --DrBob (talk) 08:39, 5 April 2008 (CDT)
Oh, good, I'm not just easily confused. In my mind any random could-be new user that first finds us by stumbling upon this guide will become miffed and leave. The guide has a lot of good information too. This is going to be my new highest priority after getting those darn bulbapedia enconter tables into place for Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. --Zaiqukaj 09:00, 5 April 2008 (CDT)
Indeed, the oversubpaging will need to be fixed, and turned into something more like what MapleStory has. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 14:51, 5 April 2008 (CDT)

players[edit]

RS does have a player limit, you merely take all the worlds in the game and times them by 2000 and thats the maximum number of people that can play it at once.--xgmx (T | C | D) 09:06, 18 June 2008 (CDT)

Is there somewhere that you noticed a statement saying otherwise (please put the link of the page next time)? Feel free to change it. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 02:29, 19 June 2008 (CDT)

how do i use chat on runescape? (not quick chat)[edit]

some one help!!!!!!! no matter what i do i can't use chat, i can only use quick chat!!!!!!!! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.42.99.233 (talkcontribs) .

All chat options are shown at the bottom of the screen (the tabs). Clicking on these filters who's speech you can see and who can see it. There are no "chatrooms," like IRC, in Runescape. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 01:37, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Wiki Runescape Guide Requests[edit]

Hello, I believe I have already received a bad name, but I have read through the guides, and walk through s, to creating a new page to our website. I have been playing RuneScape for six years now, and know just about anything you could think of. What I would love to do as the time goes on, is fill in the empty pages, and adding onto the pages with only a stub. I will in fact do this, using the "starting a new guide" walk through. I will as well make sure that it is edited correctly before hitting submit. I know, by a matter of fact, that Runescape would be much easier to get started with, if we could get the runescape wiki page going. The page lacks a lot of knowledge, and many things are incorrect. If these things would be fixed up, more and more players will come to wiki for answer. Thus, wiki spreading all over the world of runescape, including other players in the editing process. There is so much to know on the game of runescape, which is very hard to find on a website which gives information on our specific question, because that website is more concerned in filling in only the main Idea. I remember when I first started, and even now, I am still having trouble looking up how to do something specifically. I usually have to end up using a forum, and waiting a day or so for a step by step answer.

  • Any way, I got a little off there.
  • The main reason I came to write, is because I am not sure how to put a new headline. I researched about every runescape link, and am not sure where to put the mini games called "Barrows"

I did in fact read how to add a link relating to the categories, but I understand that headlines aren't meant to be edited by an average wiki members.

  • So my question is, could we please add a new category, Being called "Mini Games"?
  • another question as well, some of the categorie links give information, that doesn't need to be there.

for example, under construction, there is a link called "getting a basic house." It should be more like "Starting your house." Though, it doesn't need to be there at all, because the information should already be under "Construction". The person who wrote it gave very confusing information. And who ever wrote it, was explaining something which really didn't tell us much at all. It was more. Junk per say.. I'm not trying to be rude, I promise. Just. I would really love to be able to know that I gave forth effort, and contributions, when wiki becomes the new tip.it.

  • One last thing. I am not speaking of right now, but a few months into the future, when I have added a lot of information, would you allow me to request new category names? I understand that the people in charge of this, may not know much about runescape at all, except what they read from the wiki editors. But, things could be organized differently. To get rid of the jumbled ness :) (again, not meaning to sound rude or anything.)
  • Sorry this was so long. It's just, I enjoy writing on things I know, and I finally found a way to on a popular website :D
  • thank you.
    • and thanks for dealing with me ^.^ <3 ((unsigned|Stephypooface}}
First we should get our terminology straight. The links on the Table of Contents are just pages in the guide. The titles that are bigger than others (such as Getting Started, Guides, Mini Games, etc.) are considered to be sections. We have actual categories, so you don't want to confuse people. Second, you don't have a "bad name" here – new people join every day and it always takes some time to get up to speed; you're not doing anything wrong. As far as the guide goes, if you have information you want to add, that's great! All the links in red on the Table of Contents are pages that don't exist, so that's a good place to start. If you want to create a new section in the Table of Contents, just discuss it on the talk page first so we can make sure it's a good idea.
Some specifics: Barrows, if it's a mini game, should go under the Mini Game section (along with Castle Wars and Pest Control). Anyone is free to edit the RuneScape/Table of Contents, but I'd suggest discussing first until you get an understanding of how everything works. For instance, you can add pretty much any links you want, but if you start removing links to existing pages in an effort to reorganize, we're going to run into trouble. For the Contruction page: you're right, the Getting a basic house page probably doesn't need to be there. Instead, all those links on the Construction page should just be different sections so all the info would be found on that one page.
Moving forward, just work on one thing at a time and try to learn from any messages on your talk page and the cleanup edits that come after yours. It's not too hard once you get the hang of it, it just takes a while to learn how everything works. Last, but not least, please sign your edits to talk pages with four tildes (~~~~) or use the Wikisigbutton.png button in the toolbar above the edit text box.
