Well (CTF)
Tf2 well ctf.png
Developer Valve Software
Type Capture the Flag (CTF)

Well is a CTF map. The map used to be a direct copy of cp_well with the final points replaced with intelligence, but it has since been changed to cut out most of the middle.

Strategies[edit]

The center yard connects both bases together and will be where most of the battle is centered on. There's a moat right outside of each team's base and two bridges that cross them. Two large crates stand on either side of the yard after that, giving a form of cover and making it a small chokepoint. Right in the middle is a much smaller train shed compared to cp_well, having a single train track that runs through it.

The two gates leads to each team base, directly facing their resupply centres. In between these two rooms is the well room, which features a one-way exit into the moat outside and a staircase to the second floor. Behind this corridor is the main hall of the base. Here, two staircases connect to the second floor of the base, which is connected to the base's battlements. There is also two direct entrances to the intel room. The battlements have windows which can be shot-through, making it a popular sniping spot. It also has a ramp that leads to the third floor of the main hall, which leads to the upper entrance of the intel room. The room that houses the intel itself is much larger than any other map. There are three entrances total, two from the ground floor and one from the top floor. There is a long corridor that circles the room that leads to the top entrance. Two staircases leads to the intel, which rests on a tray under a rocket. There are four staircases that lead to an alcove behind the intel platform, and four staircases there that lead to the upper floor.

Spy[edit]

CTF well is a spy's dream. A symmetrical map, and with lots of open space to run around in, only pl_badwater can match the sheer fun and points this map will give the able spy.

Come out of your base, and cloak just before you get into the enemy half (i.e. just before the train track). You can now make it, completely invisible, into the enemy base through one of the two doors, and take a sharp left if you come in the right hand door, or vice versa if you come in the left hand door. Go straight up the stairs, and uncloak at the top. Turn right, and you are in the long corridor which is often used by lots of snipers. Or, ex-snipers after you've backstabbed anywhere between 1 and 5 sitting targets.

After the killing spree is over, go up the stairs in the centre of the long corridor, to the top level. There is occasionally a sentry up here, so deal with it, as you will be coming back this way with the intel. Continue through the door on the other side of the top level, and wait here for your cloak to recharge, if it hasn't done so already. The next room is the huge one with the intel, and there are sure to be sentries. Disguise as an engineer or demoman, cloak, and make a run for the very back of the room, on the 'first floor' (the level with the intel on). Go behind the semi-circle with the intel in, and decloak. Get sapping!

If you do manage to take out the sentries and the engineers, take the intel and go back the way you came, with one exception; as you come down the second flight of stairs (almost at the entrance to the enemy base) go into the pipe opposite the bottom of the stairs and swim out. This will provide you with a little extra safety. Remember, if you can get the intel back to your half, chances are that someone will be able to pick it up. Happy spying!
