Beginning a new game[edit]

Ask Zeus for help[edit]

You begin the game in section A of Arcadia. This first section is a quiet town with five homes and no monsters in sight. The man inside door A tells you that you must visit Zeus first. The rest of the inhabitants will provide you with information that you should make note of, but doesn't pertain to the task at hand. Run to the right to the next section.

It's difficult to fight Worms with the club

In section B, you will encounter your first enemy, the Worms. Worms start out up in the tree branches and drop to the ground when they get close to you. The good news is that your club can destroy them with one hit. The bad news is that even when you squat down, you can't strike them unless they leap off the ground. You will eventually earn a weapon that will make fighting the Worms much easier, so it's best to simply run beneath them as they fall off the tree and ignore them. Behind the single doorway F, you'll find a woman who informs you that the door behind her leads to Argolis, but that you aren't strong enough to go there yet. Take her advice, leave, and continue to the next section of Arcadia.

Section C looks similar to B, with more worms dropping from the trees. A woman inside door G will reveal a prophecy that hints at the locations of the three Fragments of Love that you must find. A young woman behind door H tells you that the Staff of Fennel can be found in Attica. Continue on to the next section.

Section D starts off with more forest and more worms dropping from trees. It ends with a house. Inside door J upstairs is a man who informs you that you need fire and the ability to jump in the forest of Peloponnesus. Your current jumping ability is not sufficient. However, door I below does not lead to a room, but rather to an entirely different region of Greece: Attica. You may be tempted to explore Attica now, but you still need to visit Zeus first, so remain in Arcadia and continue to the right.

Pass through this house to find Zeus
Let the bull run to you and hit your club

You'll come across a white house when you arrive in section E. Enter the house, and pass from the front to the back. You will be transported to the right side of section F. Walk to the left, and you will eventually encounter a Bull. This bull may be strong, but it's not very bright. It simply runs towards you with no means of defending itself. Simply slash your club repeatedly, and the bull will always run into it and bounce back. After doing so four times, the bull will be defeated, allowing you to continue to the left. Do so, and you will reach door N, the Temple of Zeus.

Speak to Zeus to gain the gods' help

Step inside and follow the carpet to the alter where Zeus stands. Kneel down and press B button to speak with Zeus. It seems that Aphrodite has filled Zeus in on your situation. You need the power of Argus to defeat Hades, but to use it, you'll need a sword crafted by Hephaestos. Zeus agrees to aide you by convincing the other gods to help you. Now you may leave the temple and return to the right. The Bull will return. Use the same strategy on him as you did before and pass through door M to return to section E.

Back in section E, you have two choices; you can return to the left or continue to explore to the right. If you explore to the right, you will only find door L, which leads to Peloponnesus. You are not strong enough to visit that region at this time, so return to the left. Now that you have spoken with Zeus, you are free to return to door I and visit Attica.

Return from Attica[edit]

The path to Argolis[edit]

Pass through this house to reach Argolis

You should have obtained the Staff of Fennel from Attica. Now you must travel to Argolis to learn how to unlock its mysterious power. Head to section B, and pass through door F. With the staff in your possession, the woman inside no longer warns you against traveling to Argolis. Pass through the opposite side, and you'll appear on the right side of section G.

From here, you must run to the left. The usual Worms of Arcadian trees will be joined by Little Bears who appear every now and then to throw spears at you, and run away. Since you should have the Shield of Athena, use it to deflect the spears. Continue to the left to the next section.

Section H starts out with a house that has two doors. Behind both of them are people who provide you with more information. Continue to the left, dodging the Worms and attacking the Little Bears whenever possible. Eventually, you will reach door R (shown right). Pass through it to travel to Argolis.

Return from Argolis[edit]

Tracking Hermes down[edit]

You should now have control over the Staff of Fennel's power of flame, and you should have visited Hermes' temple, only to find that he was summoned by Zeus. Now you must return to the Temple of Zeus to meet Hermes. On you way back to Zeus' temple, you will find that the power of flame is extremely helpful when fighting Little Bears and Worms that fall to the ground. Make your way through sections H and G to return to section B. Then run to section E to return to section F.

Track Hermes down for these sandals

You will have to fight the Bull again, but it should be easier with the Staff of Fennel. Step inside the temple and walk to the right, and you will encounter Hermes. Kneel down and speak with him. He will apologize for being away, and provide to you his sandals, the Sandals of Hermes. These sandals give you the ability to jump higher than before. In addition, if you continue to jump when there is a ceiling or tree branches above you, you will literally resist gravity and float to the top of the screen. You will return to the bottom if you hold jump again, or walk to a region where there is no more ceiling.

With the sandals, you now have the power to jump. Along with the power of flame, you possess the two ingredients necessary for passage through the forests of Peloponnesus. Return to section E, and walk far to the right this time. Pass through door L, and you will be on your way to your next destination.
