In the console version of this game, you cannot get babies, as there are no children, but you can breed your pets.

First, you need a male and a female pet. They have to be either both cats or both dogs. In fact, you don't even have to own both of them! Yep, you can just get one, and hope a local cat or dog of the opposite gender pays you a visit.

Breeding[edit]

To breed your pets, you need any type of Pet House. You can get a cheap one from the Object Catalog or you can buy a better quality one from the Pet Emporium. Then, place it on your lot and have your Sim tell your pet to 'Try for Offspring with...' and then pick which pet you want to try their luck with. If both animals are in a good mood, they will go into the Pet House. Love hearts will flutter out of the top for a while.

Offspring[edit]

When they are finished and exit the Pet House, a puppy or kitten will arrive in a basket, carried by a hot air balloon. Upon arrival, the gender will be announced. You can name your new pet now, or wait until prompted when they are about to grow up. They can look like either parent, but sometimes they'll be a random color, like green!

Puppies and kittens grow up in (approximately) 6 Sim hours. Unlike the PC expansion pack version, the offspring stay in their baskets when they are young. Sims and Pets can interact with the new member. Cats will groom them, while dogs just sniff them.
Sims have the following interactions:

  • Play With...
  • Wiggle Finger
  • View
  • Rename

"Play With..." interaction leads to the following:

  • Hold
  • Pet
  • Bounce
  • Snuggle
  • Tickle

When they grow up, other Pets may go to the basket and react. You can keep them as part of the family, or sell them at the Pet Purveyors for pet points at the Town Square.
