Players find themselves stranded in Strangetown due to car troubles. Players get advised to reserve a bed at the local hotel. After completing a few tasks, Players receive a Management role at the hotel. There is then more problems with guests they must sort out.
Sims are generally all one age, even though there clothing may change from more "childish" clothes to suites. Sims do not age even though time does progress. Sims have a sanity meter, and if this empties, they may be abducted by aliens and generally brought back to the Management Suite.
Players permanent career is the Hotel Manager. They can also collect Gourds (and Fuel Rods (sold to the city hall)) which can then be sold to the Saloon. This could be classed as a Job.
Players choose an aspiration for their sims. This affects gameplay. For example, a player who chooses the Party aspiration will be able to refill there sanity meter faster, and a player who chooses the fortune aspiration will get richer quicker.
As sims do not age, they cannot die. However, players may choose to continue to play the game after the structured story ends. Although fires and other failure states lower sims' sanity meter, they are not actually harmed.
Players do not physically build rooms. They must buy a permit from the City Hall. Tristan Legend, an NPC, will build the room. This takes 8 hours.
