Sanity is the number two thing that you need to watch out for after Needs. The Sanity bar is at the bottom left corner above the time and assets box. The sanity bar has nine parts and five colors, each color representing a different level of Sanity.

  • White/Platinum (2 parts): You must be very quick at fulfilling wants (unless you used cheats) to get to this level of Sanity. There is also no more suffering at this level, but be wary - if you don't do anything the bar will drop from white to the next level.
  • Yellow/Gold (3 part): Here you may be feeling very happy but still not in tip-top shape. You have plenty of time at this level, because you have three parts here. So you can spend some time fulfilling wants.
  • Green (2 parts): This is where you'll want to catch up on some Sanity before it slips into a more dangerous level.
  • Red (2 parts): You're going to need to quickly regain Sanity, since your character is not happy. If you don't, it will result in a total breakdown.

When your bar is empty you'll have a breakdown and you'll owe the mental hospital 500 simoleons. There are three ways in which your Sanity can drop:

  1. Not looking at the wants (most common)
  2. Monsters
  3. Unfulfilled needs
