Welcome to StrategyWiki![edit]

Hello George.Edward.C! Welcome to StrategyWiki. Thank you for your contributions. If you have any questions, just contact a sysop through their talk page or post on the staff lounge, and they'd be happy to help. If you need help editing, check the StrategyWiki Guide or ask a sysop, we're usually around. On the other hand, if you have ideas for StrategyWiki, bring them up on the forums. To keep up-to-date with the goings on of the wiki, consider adding the noticeboard to your watchlist.

Please remember to sign your name when leaving comments on talk pages by clicking Wikisigbutton.png or using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Feel free to delete this message from your talk page if you like, or keep it for reference. Happy editing! — Procyon 17:59, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

@Procyon: Thanks for the welcome message Procyon, I'm glad to be a member of this community! I was just wondering, is there an IRC channel for this wiki? If so, I'll join it! Regards, George Edward CTalkContributions 18:02, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
I wish I could tell you that there was, but we abandoned it several years back due to lack of use. If enough interest is expressed, we can look into resurrecting it. We have some extremely loyal members, but we haven't been so successful at building a sense of community, thus the lack of activity on IRC that prompted us to remove it (or rather, not reestablish it upon a change to new servers). In the mean time, most cross-site communication tends to occur in the Staff lounge. We're always glad to have another wiki expert on the site. Nice job with the new page. Did you use the pre-built template buttons or did you copy/paste from another page? Procyon 18:48, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
I really just looked at the templates used on other pages and built it based on that. This wiki really needs some more help, I see ;) I'm going to look towards some existing guides for some sense of MOS, but I think I'll be fine :) I'll take a look at that Staff lounge link too! (On an additional note, why do I have to press the preview button before saving? Is there a way to disable this?) George Edward CTalkContributions 18:54, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
To be honest, we get so many novice wiki users who would make a minor edit, save the page, look at it, make another small edit, save the page, look at it... on and on and they'd fill up the recent history logs with minor edits, and it made things very hard for our admins to manage. So we enforced a "Show Preview" policy. You can actually get around the requirement by turning off JavaScript, but I leave it on as a force of habit. I did some clean up to your recent Table of Contents, feel free to rearrange things if you don't like the results. We have two links that we require, the Getting Started page and the Walkthrough page, every guide needs them for navigation purposes. Also, we try to avoid using sub-sub-directories unless it's absolutely unavoidable (name conflicts, etc.), but it's not a hard-and-fast rule. Just a preference. Procyon 19:52, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
Fair enough. I'll modify the TOC so it has a section for each "appendix". Thank you for the work and the merge though! :) George Edward CTalkContributions 17:23, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
My pleasure. Don't feel restricted to only 2 columns either. Most of our big guides have 3 column Table of Contents, and some even have 4 (but then it's a tricky balancing act.) Procyon 19:11, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
In response to the IRC/community discussion, it really comes down to where we spend our time. Like, this isn't a place to play games, it's a place to develop strategies. Our community built this site from the ground up. What remains are the key areas that we deem necessary. IRC was helpful when we had a core group of about 10 people who would show up weekly for meetings. Even more useful than that were people willing to develop the back end of the site. For now our development is stagnant, which is fine because the core of the site is maintained (software patches get applied, backups occur) and although new features are nice, we can work with the tools that we have so far. So, back to the topic of time - as adults we have to choose where we spend our free time and when it boils down to it we each assume the roles that are most comfortable to each other. Each admin patrols edits for vandalism, helps out randomly, answers questions, and works on the games that they love. My assumed role is to pick up on all of the unpatrolled edits overlooked by people in the spare time. If you want to help out, begin by working on your favorite games' guides, making new main pages from scratch, and basic cleanup work. There are projects to steer us in our endeavors, so when we see you attempting something, or if you have questions, we can interject to help. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 19:27, 24 December 2014 (UTC)

Upload Wizard[edit]

Hi George. I'm sorry, I haven't seen that error before. I just tried the Upload Wizard to see if I could recreate the problem, but it worked fine for me. Did you have all of the required fields filled out? That's the only reason I can think for why it might refuse to upload something, but the required fields (title and date) are usually filled out in advance for you. Try it again, and let me know if you continue to have problems. Thanks! Procyon 16:34, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

Must be a problem with the Upload Wizard. The Special:Upload method worked fine. George Edward CTalkContributions 17:29, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
The permission it mentions is only available for autoconfirmed users. To get autoconfirmed, you need to have at least 10 edits and be with the site for 4 days. Maybe try again tomorrow and it should work. -- Prod (talk) 21:06, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
I find Upload Wizard to be much slower than Special:Upload, plus it adds all that garbage text to the page, particularly about licenses and such, which don't apply here. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 19:06, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
Eh, maybe. I'll just be using Special:Upload since I'm used to it. George Edward CTalkContributions 07:41, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

Pre-load buttons[edit]

The pre-load buttons.

In order to keep pages on the wiki neat and uniform, we employ certain formatting and templates to help us accomplish this. When creating a new page, please use one of the pre-load buttons located above the edit text box (e.g. click on "Guide page" to add {{Header Nav}} to the top and {{Footer Nav}} to the bottom), which will insert the needed templates and formatting for you. These templates are very handy because they include the templates that are required for each page type. If you are unsure about how to use them, or what pages to use them on, please let me know. Thanks for keeping the wiki organized! — Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 19:35, 24 December 2014 (UTC)

The reason I am leaving this templated message is because you left off the {{Header Nav}}, {{Continue Nav}}, and {{ToC}} (all are required) on Payday 2. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 19:35, 24 December 2014 (UTC)

Stubs[edit]

{{Stub}} goes at the very top of a page. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 19:44, 24 December 2014 (UTC)

Image categorisation[edit]

When uploading images, please make sure to categorise them using the correct image categories and the guide-specific category, i.e. [[Category:Game Name images]]. Please see our image policy for more details. Thanks for helping to keep our images neat! — Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 19:37, 24 December 2014 (UTC)

This template message was left in regards to File:PD2 BoxArt NoPlatform.jpg. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 19:37, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
Cheers for all the messages you've been leaving, I've been distracted by Wikipedia work. Thanks for informing me about these local preferences!!! I'm also going to work on my guide after Christmas. George Edward CTalkContributions 19:53, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for being receptive and notifying us of your awareness to our messages. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 18:30, 5 January 2015 (UTC)
