Welcome to StrategyWiki![edit]

Hello Lionrt60! Welcome to StrategyWiki. Thank you for your contributions. If you have any questions, just contact a sysop through their talk page or post on the staff lounge, and they'd be happy to help. If you need help editing, check the StrategyWiki Guide or visit the IRC channel to chat, we're usually around. On the other hand, if you have ideas for StrategyWiki, bring them up on the forums. To keep up-to-date with the goings on of the wiki, consider adding the noticeboard to your watchlist.

Please remember to sign your name when leaving comments on talk pages by clicking Wikisigbutton.png or using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Feel free to delete this message from your talk page if you like, or keep it for reference. Happy editing! — Procyon 17:36, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

Writing style[edit]

When revising pages in the Pokemon guide, please don't refer to "generations." Always assume that a reader will have no idea what you're talking about, and instead refer to the specific games that you're talking about. If you do feel the need to discuss generations, a primer about generations and which games belong to which is necessary so a player who has no knowledge of generations can understand what you are trying to say. Hi Lionrt60. No worries, you don't have to apologize. We're here to help and don't mind the questions. I will look into the bulbapedia issue. If such a template doesn't exist, it shouldn't be too hard to whip one up for you. You can reply on either your talk page, or respond directly on someone's talk page. Sysops generally track the changes that take place across the site, so if you reply on your own talk page, we are likely to see that you've done so. Also, if you simply end your posts by typing ~~~~, it will automatically add your signature so you don't have to do it yourself. The results will be similar (but not identical) to this: Procyon 17:50, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
OK, {{bpa}} is ready for you to use. Also, don't forget to sign with ~~~~, even if it's just to say thanks. And if you want to indent, start your paragraph with a colon, not spaces. If you try to use spaces,
 it will look like this.
Good luck, and let me know if you have any more questions. Procyon 17:59, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
No problem at all. The way we see it, if you get better, the site gets better, and everybody wins. That's all we want :) Procyon 18:06, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
I assume you mean the Smogon University website? We would really prefer that you don't if you can avoid it. We have an agreement and a partnership with Bulbapedia. We have no such agreement with Smogon. Therefore, it would really be best if you can keep all of the information that you would like to relate on this site rather than linking to another. That's just sort of a site policy. Pretend every other website but SW disappeared :) Procyon 18:41, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
Hi, I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by anchor. What do you mean by that? Thanks. Procyon 20:40, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
Oh, gotcha. Whenever you create a header, the wiki automatically creates an anchor with the same name. You can link to it via the standard wiki convention using double brackets. For example, I can link to your welcome message up above by typing [[User_talk:Lionrt60#Welcome to StrategyWiki!|welcome]] which produces: welcome. Under most circumstances, the name of the anchor will match the name of the header exactly, unless a header shares the same name with another. If you're not sure what the correct anchor name is, you can check the in-page table of contents. Hover over the link, and you should see what the wiki named it. Let me know if this was clear or if you need more explanation. Procyon 21:09, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

I fixed up the links on Pokémon Black and White/Breeding, so just take a look at the code there to see what it's doing. -- Prod (Talk) 22:13, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

Redirects[edit]

What are you attempting to do with redirects? -- Prod (Talk) 17:15, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

Looks like someone has already taken care of the name with a slightly different capitalization. You can see how it's done here. -- Prod (Talk) 19:28, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

Please don't make cross-namespace redirects, except in specific cases to category pages (where we put article information for some reason). If you want to make a shortcut to a page in the StrategyWiki namespace, use "SW:" as a prefix. You can use SW:ADMIN as a shortcut link to the administrator list page. — najzereT 17:55, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

Controls selector[edit]

There isn't a more generic version. But the general idea is to either used {{sidebar}}s to show the differences, or just show the differences beside each other. -- Prod (Talk) 19:08, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
