Welcome to StrategyWiki![edit]

Hello Megaminxwin! Welcome to StrategyWiki. Thank you for your contributions. If you have any questions, just contact a sysop through their talk page or post on the staff lounge, and they'd be happy to help. If you need help editing, check the StrategyWiki Guide or ask a sysop, we're usually around. On the other hand, if you have ideas for StrategyWiki, bring them up on the forums. To keep up-to-date with the goings on of the wiki, consider adding the noticeboard to your watchlist.

Please remember to sign your name when leaving comments on talk pages by clicking Wikisigbutton.png or using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Image categorization[edit]

When uploading images, please make sure to categorise them using the correct image categories and the guide-specific category, i.e. [[Category:Game Name images]]. Please see our image policy for more details. Thanks for helping to keep our images neat! Paco (talk) 11:22, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

I do apologise, I was unaware of this policy, because I'm stupid. All fixed now. Megaminxwin (talk) 11:25, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
Nah, you're not stupid. I made that mistake at begin too, but with time i learned what is needed to do. ^^ You only added Screenshots as Category, but images usually have 2 or more Categories. One Game Category and another Category (Screeenshots, Sprites, Maps, etc). See here what was missing. Paco (talk) 11:36, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
Okay, good to know. I'll get around to doing that as soon as I finish with this page. Megaminxwin (talk) 11:38, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
Right, I think that's all of them. If it isn't, you must tell me. TELL ME. I must be perfect. Megaminxwin (talk) 12:00, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

Capitalization after a colon[edit]

Please do not capitalize the first word after a colon, like you did so a few times in this diff. It is not grammatically correct. It is not the beginning of a new sentence. Thank you, and thanks for your help with the Super Mario 64 guide. =) --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 15:19, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Apologies. I actually thought it was grammatically correct, since it's in the style of a list, or something? I guess it would probably be best to use a whole different style instead... hrm. Something to think about. Megaminxwin (talk) 04:13, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
Actually, NMH, what Megaminxwin did there might be acceptible. The words before the colon are just the name of a stage, so the word after the colon is the start of a new sentence. It's not the same as writing something like:
If there's one thing you shouldn't do, it's this: don't do blah blah blah.
In that example, the word "don't" isn't starting a new sentence, so you would be right. But in the example you pointed out, it's more like:
Level 1: To complete this level, do blah blah blah.
"Level 1" isn't really the start of the sentence, "To" is. Ultimately though, it's really no big deal. Procyon 05:24, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
Grammar is confusing. I don't really care what it is, as long as it's consistent. Megaminxwin (talk) 08:41, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

When moving pages...[edit]

Please 1) mark the old page for deletion and 2) update all pages linking to the deleted page. We do not allow for image redirects or sub-page redirects. So, for example, you need to go to: http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Special:WhatLinksHere/Super_Mario_64/Tall_Tall_Mountain (to get to this page, go to a page, look in the toolbox, and select "What links here") and take a look at all five pages that need links updated. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 18:19, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, I completely forgot about those. I just thought that the remaining links on the three pages with actual content were in the table of contents, and I had already updated that, so... Should be fixed now. Again, sorry. Megaminxwin (talk) 02:27, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
No worries. It's my job to help you guys do a perfect job, and I may sound like a dick when I'm just trying to save time. I only have a couple of minutes each day to check in and help out, so I try to make the most of it. And helping others hear helps the whole place out, so you're worht investing in. Thanks for helping out. Peace. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 06:17, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Super Mario 64 items[edit]

The items page needs to remain under the main Super Mario 64 section. Unless the DS version has version-exclusive items that do not appear in the nintendo 64 game, then no page is necessary. Also, if just a few extra items were added, a Super Mario 64 DS section is sufficient on the items page. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 17:20, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

Sorry. --Megaminxwin (talk) 02:11, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

Unused image[edit]

Since this image: File:SM64 The Secret Aquarium Blank Map.png has not been placed yet, and a better map exists, can I delete it? --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 16:44, 6 September 2013 (UTC)

There's a better map? Where? If you're talking about the map with all the red coins placed, I uploaded that so that anyone who needed to use it for something else could just save that image and work on that, rather than having to contact me and do it for all of them. That's why I uploaded blank versions of all the maps actually. --Megaminxwin (talk) 04:52, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
No one will use them and you will forget about them. Interested parties may contact you if they care. We do not allow unused files to reside here since it just uses up space and we like to keep things "clean". Unused images appear here. I will invite some other users to this conversation to see what they think. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 20:06, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
I think the simple solution to this is to just put all of the images you made onto your user page like so:
<gallery>
File:SM64 The Secret Aquarium Blank Map.png
File:Other images...
</gallery>

This is very similar to something I did in Pac-Man/Walkthrough by providing a template image for people to edit. I see the utility in what MMXW is doing here. I think it might be best to add a page to the appendix for "Unedited Stage Maps" (or something of that nature) where the maps can be stored. That way, they will not be tagged as unused, but they won't be in the way of the guides. But they definitely need to be assigned somewhere. I would like to cleanup the red coin maps using a better tool to make smoother lines (straight or curved), so again, I see value in keeping them. Procyon 20:43, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
Super Mario 64/Maps it is! --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 21:03, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
My view on this is a bit mixed. The file isn't directly useful in the guide, so there's no real reason to include it on a content page, however it is a useful image to include. It is categorized along with the rest of the guide images, so it's not ambiguous what it's for, but it's hard to find if someone wants it. Perhaps we should just make sure it's linked/included from the derivative image? -- Prod (talk) 02:13, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
I'd keep them, and make sure they're linked to from somewhere so they don't show up as unused. An appendix page for the blank maps might be easiest for other users to be able to find them. --Moydow T · C 14:36, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
