Volguard is a horizontally scrolling shooter, created by dB Soft for several popular Japanese home computers, including the MSX. In Volguard, the player controls an increasing number of crafts until all three have been collected. At that time, the player may opt to join all three crafts together to form a giant robot. Compared to the sequel, it was well received.
Planet Toraidoru has fallen to the attack of a mysterious enemy. Something is needed to oppose the masses of fighter planes which appear, one after another, from the enormous enemy mother ship. The most up-to-date weapon must be utilized: High Movement Variable Aggressive System VOLGUARD.
Volguard is composed of three separate machines which unite to take the form of a gigantic robot. In robot form, Volguard has access to the Hyper Canon and the Active Barrier. It is a history-making system of aggression.
Due to its extreme energy consumption, the wear brought on by a long battle, and the low productivity due to the complexity of its structure, maintenance of the system has become a difficult problem. However, its attack power and defensive power is the only thing that can quickly accomplish the immense task.
It is your mission to pilot the Volguard, and drive away the enemy's enormous mother ship.
