Intoduction to the Rogue[edit]

The Rogue class is currently available to all races except the Horde Tauren. They can wear both cloth and leather armor, and are able to learn to fight with daggers, one-handed maces, one-handed swords, fist weapons, crossbows, bows, guns, and thrown weapons, plus, of couse, unarmed. Rogues can also learn to dual-wield with one-handed weapons.

The Rogue is a melee-based class with a special talent: stealth. Stealth allows the rogue to make him/herself invisible to enemies (whether mobs or members of the opposing faction) as long as the enemy is of a lower level than the Rogue, and does not have a special ability which enables them to see through stealth. The advantages of stealth and its functions will be elaborated on in a later section.

Energy[edit]

Rogues use Energy instead of mana or rage. The Rogue always has 100 Energy, which is used for attacking. Energy replenishes at 20 points every 2 seconds, in or out of battle. Maximum Energy can be increased by ten points by equipping the five-piece Nightslayer armor set, and by another ten points by gaining the ability Vigor at the top of the Assassination talent tree.

Special Rogue Abilities[edit]

Rogues have a variety of special abilities that can be used even out of battle, and one of which is more like a service profession than anything else.

Pickpocketing[edit]

While in stealth, the Rogue can pickpocket Humanoid mobs. Some Rogue quests involve the retrival of items through pickpocketing. Pickpocketing commonly yields money, which is not distributed to the other members of the Rogue's party when looted. In addition to money and quest items, a variety of other things can be pickpocketed, including cloth, food, potions, vendor trash, and lockboxes.

Poisons[edit]

At level 20, the Rogue receives a quest with the end result of the ability to poison their blade(s). This quest is no longer required to poison weapons however, as all you have to do is buy them from a shady dealer once you're high enough in level.

Lockpicking[edit]

Lockpickers are some of the most sought-after skill workers. Although blacksmiths and engineers can both gain the ability to make keys and bombs to unlock boxes/chests/etc, Rogues will often provide the service for free or, at higher levels, for a small fee. The ability to pick locked chests makes a Rogue invaluable in an instance, especially at low levels before blacksmiths and engineers learn to open things themselves. However, this is often used by some Rogues to 'ninja' loot that should have been rolled on, or distributed to the group. Because of this, some people will not take Rogues into their groups. In the main cities, one will often see lockpickers advertising their services, or non-lockpickers looking for the service of a Rogue.

A Rogue is a nice damage dealer. Rogues use combination moves to ramp up their damage using an action point system whereas certain attack return action points which let you ramp up damage done in finishing moves. Rogues have the ability to stealth, while stealthed they have access to moves such as sap, pick pocket, not to mention the ability scout or sneak past aggro. Rogues have the ability to raise lock picking skill to open chests. They also get a sprint ability handy to do quick damage and then get out of trouble.
