One of the greatest benefits of X-Plane is the fact that you can download new aircraft, plugins, and scenery from the web, and add them to your current setup for additional fun.

The following is a list of good sites from which you can download or purchase extras:

Installing addons[edit]

There are many types of add-ons, the following is a brief list of how to install each type.

Note that many custom packages have a README file that comes with them. Usually that will say something similar to the instructions below, but some packages have special requirements.

Aircraft[edit]

  1. Unzip the archive you have downloaded from the internet
  2. Place the folder in your X-System x.xx--->Aircraft directory. You can place it in any of the folders you want to in the Aircraft directory. Also, x.xx is in place of your version number.
  3. To fly the aircraft, open the sim, click File--->Open Aircraft. Navigate to the proper aircraft location and click on ACFname.acf (ACFname=the aircraft's name)
  4. If you have problems, make sure that the aircraft is for your version of X-Plane and that no files are missing, if you are still having difficulties, post your problem in the X-Plane.org Tech Support forum or something similar and other users are sure to help you out.

Scenery[edit]

  1. Unzip the files
  2. Drag the ensuing folder into your X-System--->Custom Scenery folder.
  3. The scenery should automatically show up in the sim.
  4. If you have problems, do the same as step 4 in the aircraft installation directions above.

Plugins[edit]

  1. Unzip the files
  2. Drag the Pluginname.xpl file into your X-System--->Resources--->Plugins folder. If there are any other resource folders etc. in the plugins archive, drag those over also (see the plugin's read me or instruction file)
  3. If you have problems, do the same as step 4 in the aircraft installation directions above.
