When you lose your last life, press and hold 
when you press 
to continue from the level in which you died.
Hard Mode[edit]
On the title screen, press . Then press 
, then hold 
+
and press . You will now be playing the game in Hard Mode, in which all enemies are significantly sped up, but nothing else concerning the layout of the levels has changed.
