Alone in the Dark 2 is the sequel to the critically acclaimed Alone in the Dark. Unlike the first game, it was designed by Franck de Girolami and was ported to several consoles, including the PlayStation, under the subtitle One-Eyed Jack's Revenge (or Jack is Back! in Europe). This sequel was less well received than the first game, mainly because of its much higher number of action scenes. This game was directly followed by a third opus which more or less preserved its action-focused gameplay.

Story[edit]

The story takes place in the Californian coast, during Christmas 1924—thus making it a prequel to the first game. The child Grace Saunders has been kidnapped by the famous criminal One-Eyed Jack and his gang. Playing the private detective Edward Carnby, your goal will be to infiltrate the enemy's HQ, the grisly mansion of Hell's Kitchen, in order to retrieve the little girl and eliminate once and for all the evil mobster.

Gameplay[edit]

The game keeps the preset camera angles and puzzle-oriented gameplay from the first game, but adds more enemies, more weapons, more flasks and more cutscenes. This sequel does not aim to be as scary either, by taking less inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft's novels and not using as many jumpscares as in the first game, as well as featuring some interesting choice of soundtrack. Therefore, the horror has been attenuated but it does for sure preserve the survival aspect.
