Battlezone is a critically acclaimed remake of the arcade game of the same name (by Atari). It was released by Activision in 1998 for Windows. Aside from the name and presence of tanks, this game bears little resemblance to the original. Activision remade it into a hybrid of a tank simulation game, a first-person shooter and a real-time strategy game.

Legacy support

Currently Battlezone is more or less considered 'abandonware.' There is, however, a web site devoted to this game. Battlezone1 Community is a long-standing community site supporting the original Battlezone 1.4 game, and the Red Odyssey expansion pack, and the 1.5 patch, a patch that fixes many of the original game's bugs and adds Dx9 support. Battlezone 1.5 patch also has many anti-hacking features to eliminate issues that plagued the original in online gaming, and is compatible with modern operating systems and hardware.

There is a discussion/development thread headed by Ken Miller, one of the original Battlezone programmers, who is currently working on the 1.5 patch.
