Blaster Master Zero is a 2D platforming and run and gun game developed by Inti Creates for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS. It is a modernized "re-imagining" of the original Blaster Master game, with a classic pixel graphics art style, but with new, more advanced gameplay mechanics, new areas, bosses, weapons, and a two-player mode that allows a second player to provide cover fire for the first player. It retells and greatly expands on the story of the original game. It was released in March 2017. It later received DLC that adds new playable characters, including Ekoro from Gal*Gun: Double Peace, Gunvolt from Azure Striker Gunvolt, Shantae, and Shovel Knight. All these DLC characters were made available for free for a limited time after release before becoming paid DLC.
