Color Dreams was one of the first companies to find a workaround for Nintendo's 10NES protection chip; since this was before the advent of media monitoring systems (such as the ESRB) this let them bypass Nintendo's mandatory inspection of all titles before they went into production. Because of the way their bypass method was designed, Color Dreams' cartridges were not illegal.

The general low quality of their games led them to create a secondary brand Bunch Games in 1990 so that they could release the worst of their games under this name without hurting the parent company's already flagging reputation. In 1991 they again rethought their identity, renaming themselves to Wisdom Tree and producing Christian-themed games exclusively; once again, all games were unlicensed.
