The Disney Afternoon was a two-hour animated television programming block that ran from 1990 to 1997. Over the years, it hosted 13 different animated Disney series, 7 of which received one or more video game adaptations.

The main reason to group these games in a single category is the existence of The Disney Afternoon Collection, that includes games from four different TV animated series, but all made by the same developer, Capcom.

Games developed in different regions (in particular: Japan vs. North America) show marked differences in style and design. Therefore, it makes sense to split up the series accordingly.

The subdivision between "Japanese" and "North American" takes place on several dimensions:

Japanese games North American games
  • All were developed by Capcom
  • All were originally released on Nintendo consoles
  • All (but two) belong to the "Platform" genre
  • Most of them were re-released 20 years later
  • Developed by several different companies
  • None of them released on Nintendo systems
  • They belong to five different genres
  • None of them was re-released

Japanese games by Capcom

Capcom alone developed 50% of all the Disney Afternoon video games. All the Disney Afternoon games by Capcom share some elements of design.
