Midway was founded in 1958 as Midway Manufacturing.

Midway was bought by Bally in 1969. Bally merged their Pinball division in 1982 to create Bally/Midway.

They were bought by Williams Electronics Games's parent company in 1988, but continued to use the Bally/Midway label until 1991, when it dropped the Bally portion.

In 1996, Midway was renamed to Midway Games and the same year spun off as an independent entity.
