Project Gotham Racing (PGR) is a franchise of racing video games developed by Bizarre Creations and published by Microsoft, exclusively for the Xbox and Xbox 360. The game is the successor to Bizarre Creations' high-profile Dreamcast racing game Metropolis Street Racer, and shares some of that game's defining characteristics, including the Kudos system and highly detailed real-world locations.
The series' defining feature is the Kudos system, which awards players points for performing risky maneuvers and stunts, and penalizes drivers for collisions with the environment and other racers. Kudos points can be used in different ways, depending on the particular installment.
While the most recent titles in the series have supported online gaming across Xbox Live, the original Project Gotham Racing did not.
In September 2007, after being bought by Activision, Bizarre Creations announced that Project Gotham Racing 4 would be the last game in the series they will develop for Microsoft. The future of the franchise is currently uncertain, but Microsoft owns the license and may enlist another developer to continue the series.
