A group of Sonic Team employees moved to the US in order to work on international releases of Sega/Sonic Team titles prior to the U.S. launch of the Sega Dreamcast. They first worked on the ports of Sonic Adventure and ChuChu Rocket!, followed by development of Sonic Adventure 2, which shows in its level design a large degree of influence from the studio's San Francisco location. In 2005, the studio changed its name to Sega Studio USA. The studio was co-located with Sega of America until 2008, when Sega of America relocated, and Sega Studio USA was closed, more or less being reabsorbed into the Japanese Sonic Team.
