"Total Annihilation" is the name of two series of RTS games made by Cavedog Entertainment.

The original Total Annihilation (sometimes abbreviated OTA) is a futuristic RTS which innovated in its use of physics, its economic system, and 3D units and battlefield. It was followed up with two expansion packs: Total Annihilation: The Core Contingency and Total Annihilation: Battle Tactics. There is also a modern remake of the game engine known as Spring.

The "sequel" to Total Annihilation was Total Annihilation: Kingdoms (abbreviated TA:K or TAK), which used a fantasy (rather than sci-fi) setting, simplified economy, 4 sides, and more focus on the single-player story. It wasn't received as well as the original, but still has many of the features of the original. An expansion pack was released for it, as well: The Iron Plague, which extended the storyline of the first TA:K, added a 5th faction, many maps, new graphics for map tile sets, many new units for the existing factions, and rebalanced many of the existing units.

Chris Taylor, the creator of the series, left Cavedog shortly before the release of Total Annihilation: Battle Tactics. His most recent game (as of 2008) was Supreme Commander, considered by many as a spiritual successor to Total Annihilation.
