Are these the name of games that conflict with our genres? --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 23:53, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
Some of them don't conflict yet because there's no page there, and others that do conflict should probably keep their redirect. Categories like "Adventure" have so many games and I think it's much more likely anyone using [[Adventure]] wants the category. Maybe these genres should have a link to a disambiguation page or a game page at the top. The strike-through names are ones that are already disambiguated, either through a game being at the main page or a disambiguation page there (Boxing). — najzereT 00:24, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
I screwed up actually :( I gave Golf to the NES title, but the 2600 version came out first. So technically, the current Golf article should be "Golf (Nintendo)" (since it was on the Famicom, NES, FDS, and e-Reader), and a new Golf article for the Atari 2600 should go in it's place... :P Procyon 04:19, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

Okay, I changed my mind. I think the pages should go to the games, not the categories, regardless of how large the category is. The reason is that as editors, it's our responsibility make sure our links are correct, while users who type in the name of their game should be taken where they expect to go. I don't know if we're capturing searches, but I doubt many people are searching for game genres. Obviously, if we change this it will have to be watched on every new guide page, but the blanket use of {{C}} may make it bearable. Still, it's a big change and just about every game named after its category is pretty old and/or unpopular, so this probably isn't a huge problem. When the next blockbuster PS3/360/Windows game called "Action" comes out though… :P — najzereT 16:17, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

Since we use the Category name space, there's not really an issue. I think using {{C}} on everything isn't the way to go. We should, as we are forced to, use it only on these pages with naming conflicts. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 06:28, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
The conflict isn't between game names and category names, it's between game names and redirects to category names, which are both in the main namespace. It comes down to whether we want a search to go to the article with the name of the search criteria or not. Although redirects can be used to make wikilinking easier, that should be of secondary concern, as editors must ensure that the links they create go where intended. — najzereT 19:43, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

More categories[edit]

Some games are being lumped into imprecise categories such as board games or party, when they're really something else. We could probably use more specific categories such as card games, casino and casual. This idea came to me when working on Blackjack, which is categorized as a board game. We also have some games based on slots and other casino games, and currently the party category is our catch-all for anything we can't find a better category for. There are probably other examples of more specific categories that would also be useful, like maybe real-time strategy, text adventure, text-based, rhythm, etc. — najzereT 19:43, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
