This page will probably be a stub forever, because everyone keeps creating sub categories for it (for Hansterz or Dogz or whatever) which only have two games in them. So there's only going to be the Catz 2 and Dogz 2 in this page anyway. I'm not saying we should delete it, I'm just totally confused. --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 16:00, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Bunnyz[edit]

I haven't actually got this game, but from what I've read on other websites it's pretty much the same as Hamsterz, but with rabbits. Is there any point in me creating this page, or shall I see if I get it for christmas and find out if it is the same and if it is merge the two pages together? --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 18:19, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

One series but not another[edit]

How come some of the games (take Hamsterz 2 for example) are just in their subcategory, and not in the Petz category? Because they are all in the Petz series, and in the US Hamsterz 2 is called Petz: Hamsterz 2 and so it should be in Petz and Hamsterz, because it is in both serieses (if that's a word). --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 12:49, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, it seems the pages that are not here are missing the category. Looks like the top section is specific categories within the petz series and the bottom section is actual games that have the Petz category on their main page (or are the series in tehir infobox since that does the same thing). I'm going to go fix these so the categories on each of the existing petz related pages match.
This sounds more fun than a spelling sweep. You should take a look at what changes or gets moved in the diffirences part of the recent changes page after it's fixed (it's a really little mix-up, the guides all look to be growing solidly). Thats how I learned how to do things here. --Zaiqukaj 13:17, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Mini-project[edit]

There was a discussion a little while ago about how confusing the Petz series really is. I'd like to propose we have a mini-collaboration real quick for the following:

  1. Determine naming conventions, etc. for the Petz games on this site
  2. Create at least a main page for each Petz game (main pages should include a note at the top to help users find the game they are looking for, if they are on the wrong one).
  3. Organize the Petz categories and maybe create a few disambiguation pages if needed (this can be discussed)

I'd like the input of those of you who have been working on the Petz games, as you seem to be the most knowledgable. Is everyone up for this?--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 15:44, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Sounds good. I can work on a Petz series template we can use on all the front pages. I've never played a Petz game, but Melon knows all about them, and I don't mind trying to implement whatever she comes up with. - najzere 15:52, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
I guess I'll go along with it. Are the things we're talking about like the little box at the bottom of The Sims 2? And also, am I supposed to be editing the table down there because I think that, if all the ones with one title are American names, the EU names are different (such as Petz Dogz Fashion is called Fashion Dogz). --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 17:30, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I'm talking about the {{Series Nav}} that goes at the bottom of the page. As for the table, we have to figure out how to address the different titles from different regions and also how to differentiate games from different times that have the same names. The list just came from a quick search I did, if there are alternate names for European or US releases, go ahead and add them. How do you feel about having one name for each game (maybe the first one released) and then redirecting other names to it? - najzere 17:38, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Reading the WikiPedia page, it says that from 2006 on the Petz games took a different direction and should be considered a different series. Maybe we should have two series, one for the computer games and one for the console games that have come out since 2006. We could have Petz (PC) or Petz (Windows) for the old version and just Petz for the newer one. I think we'll get more traffic for the newer ones and there are already more games for that series. - najzere 17:45, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

I think we should leave it as one series as they're still Petz. And I'll add the eu names and possibly some links to the table below. --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 17:54, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
That's an interesting question... On the one hand, I understand Melon's point of view, in that all of the games are technically part of the "Petz" series. On the other hand, there is a rather profound difference between the original Petz games and the current ones. I'm not entirely sure where to stand on this one, however. This is a tough question and probably the first we should tackle.
My stance on this is to agree with Najzere. It seems like right around 2006 they essentially started over with the series. The original series spans 5 iterations (Dogz through Dogz 5 and Catz through Catz 5). The only time we see "Petz" in this is for the compilations. In 2006, they released Dogz and Catz once again (a completely unrelated game to the original) and then the sequels they started calling it Petz: Dogz 2, etc. This is a great cut-off and should eliminate a lot of confusion.
To that end, I'm proposing we create Category:Petz (PC) for the original games and Category:Petz will become purely for the newer games. We can have a statement at the top to link the two. Underneath the "Petz (PC)" category, we can have "Dogz (PC)" and "Catz (PC)". Underneath the "Petz" category, we can have "Dogz", "Catz", "Hamsterz", etc. as needed.--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 18:59, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
Yeah I guess you're right. So basically we have a category for Dogz 1 to 5 and Catz 1 to whatever number they go up to. I think I'll split the table below in two, so we know which series is which. --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 09:43, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Just so you all know I have some experience with the first version of the Petz series (those ones made of fuzzy ball clusters). I’ll see if I can find my copy of Oddballz and begin searching for some of the other early PC games. --Zaiqukaj 12:41, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

And also, if Catz is called Catz 2 in US, what is the Catz 2 for DS called? I'm assuming it would just be 'Petz: Catz 2' again. It's just here you can get Catz 2 for DS but not on any other platforms (there might be a GBA version, but I don't think there is). --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 09:54, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Nav created. See Template:Petz nav and change it if there's something wrong. I'll add it to already created Petz articles. --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 10:02, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

I moved it here {{Petz}} so it's named like all the other series navs. It looks good, I guess we'll just adjust the titles and add more when we get the table filled out? - najzere 15:38, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, we'll add the other games when we get the table filled out. The only thing bugging me is that when you deleted the other page it said that you were the only contributer, so it's almost like you get all the credit for it when all you did was move the page! --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 17:28, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

What's wrong with that? Moving pages is hard work, I should get the credit! Just kidding, you can see here that you are the creator and main contributor. I wouldn't worry, I think it's well known that Melon247 is the animal guide expert around here. :) - najzere 18:03, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

I'm bringing up a question from earlier. With Bunnyz, I think is could be possible to maybe have a Bunnyz and Hamsterz or Petz:Bunnyz and Hamsterz is you prefer. Then again, I haven't actually got this game yet, but from trailers and stuff I've seen it looks exactly the same as hamsters, except you have rabbits instead and they are probably in hutches. --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 18:47, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

If they're the same, then I don't know why you wouldn't handle it the same way as Petz: Dogz 2 and Catz 2. We'll just have to verify they're identical. - najzere 16:06, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

I'll find out soon, because in a way I do actually have this game, but it's being saved for christmas. So we'll find out then! --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 17:35, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

I just watched a film on YouTube (ok, it was on Google Videos, but it was still from Youtube), here, and Bunnyz looks exactly the same as hamsterz, but I did notice a few differences, including this wierd thing they did with bubbles and the menu looks different, and choosing a bunny looked a bit wierd aswell. Then again, most of the other things looked the same. So now I'm not sure. --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 17:46, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
I just found out it was one further down the page, but never mind. As there are some differences (unlike in Dogz and Catz, where the only difference is the type of animal in each game) I think we should keep the games seperate. --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 18:44, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Merging games that are very similar may be an ok idea if we tried doing something like how controls are toggled in some of the multi platform games like here. --Zaiqukaj 12:41, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

I'm getting confused now, because first everyone is saying that Dogz and Catz and Hamsterz need to be in seperate serieses, and now everyone's saying that they should be merged into the Petz category. So what's going to happen now? --Melon247 15:26, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
Personally, I think it would be easiest to have a Petz category for all of the Petz games (like we mentioned below). We also need to have a disambiguation page that explains the naming system of all the guides. Maybe that's where a category for Dogz and such comes into play. As long as we make it easy for users to find which guide they really want, we're okay.--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 15:30, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

They're all in there already. Unless you're talking about the first table, which we're putting into a different series. - najzereT 15:54, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
It has the listing, of the games, but doesn't go into chronology, describe which versions are equivalent, or go into any detail. I removed it from the template because it belongs on this page. -- Prod (Talk) 16:38, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
A couple of days ago I had an idea to have a table on the Petz page with the UK and US titles on it. Are you guys side-kick or something? : ) --Melon247 Hammy, my hamster. Cute! (talk · contribs · comp) 16:46, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
It might be a good idea to verify the chronology. I pulled this list from GameFAQs by searching for "Petz", "Dogz", and "Catz". It could easily be missing information.--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 16:49, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
For now should I add the table? --Melon247 Hammy, my hamster. Cute! (talk · contribs · comp) 16:51, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
Yes please. -- Prod (Talk) 03:37, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Different series[edit]

The games in what Najzere called the 'Petz Rescue' sub-series for Petz aren't actually in the Petz series. They are in the series 'Planet Rescue' which, if you look on the Planet Reasue website, is a series of different games. I think the confusion was that they are both by Ubisoft. --Melon247 10:19, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

I think I just saw the american website and they seem to be in the petz series there. What are we going to do now because in the uk they're not in the Petz series and in the UK they are. Maybe we should just have a seperate series for Petz Rescue/Planet Rescue. --Melon247 13:40, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

games[edit]

I just found out that My Puppy Family and Petz Dogz Pack are the same games. I was looking on Google for Catz images and I found a link to a new Petz website. Unfortunately I didn't make a note of the address or anything. But I saw a video of it and a very simular video is on the petz website that I'd seen before. --Melon247 13:33, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

This is a link: http://petz.us.ubi.com/#/dogz-pack --Melon247 13:38, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

The Merging[edit]

How about we have sub-categories for the games, but the info on those pages will also be on the Petz category. And also, how about adding [[Category:Petz]] to all games in the Petz series? Because why should they all be in their sub-serieses and not in the main one? If they're in both, then that's problem solved, and people won't be as confused --Melon247 12:52, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Currently we only put the most immediate series on games, because the series is in turn picked up by the parent series. I'm for keeping the sub-series separate from the Petz category because I think it's more helpful to users who like the game they're playing and want to find another one most like it. As for the information, a one to two sentence blurb on the Petz page should be sufficient, while the bulk of the information (if there ever is any) should go on the individual sub-series category pages. That's what makes most sense to me anyway. - najzere 15:45, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Categories[edit]

With the games that are basically under "other" in the Petz series or similar, should we just put the series as Petz? For example, under the Wanted Categories bit I saw a Monkeyz category. There are two games in it; Petz: Monkey Madness and Petz: Crazy Monkeyz. The only page that links to it is the page it's on (Petz: Monkey Madness). Also there are other games such as Bunnyz (currently in the Petz category anyway) and Petz: Vet which don't go in their own series since they're the only games that would be in there. --Melon247 Hammy, my hamster. Cute! (talk · contribs · comp) 09:36, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Category:Mario does it, so why not Petz. -- Prod (Talk) 01:23, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
Should we have all the games here or just the ones that don't fit under Dogz, Catz, Hamsterz, etc.? I mean, we could easily just add Category:Petz to the Petz template (in an includeonly tag, I should think). --Melon247 Hammy, my hamster. Cute! (talk · contribs · comp) 12:53, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
It's best how they are right now with games in the most specific category. It's redundant to categorize a game by its series and by its series' parent series. - najzereT 15:16, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Petz Category split[edit]

Was the PC Petz category decided upon or created? If a decision was made, the category should be set up and links created, even if we don't have the actual games that belong. -- Prod (Talk) 01:57, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
